Emporda Double Hill Resort near Girona/ Golfbreaks.com
We booked a 3 day golf package with Golfbreaks.com beginning June 20. At the time of booking. we were not informed by this so-called golf travel specialist that the greens on one of the courses, Links, was unplayable because the greens had been dug up. We booked one day links, two days Forest, the other course there. The golf receptionist insisted that Golfbreaks had been informed of the Links maintenance programme before we booked - which began on June 14.
So the hotel. The a/c didn't work and after one sweaty sleepless night, and after a technician tried to repair the a/c, we moved to another room. We then found out that the pool was empty (we're talking summer here) and the answer to why was a shrug of the shoulders.
Wi-Fi doesn't work if you have a North facing room Why? "Because iPhones don't work in this hotel, only Androids." When we moved to a different room facing south, guess what, iPhones worked. The staff there really treat their customers like techno idiots.
The food: the restaurant is almost empty (4 people) because of the poor menu and sky high pricing. The snack bar coming off the course is great with a microwave and serves up cheap food again at sky high prices. The main dish of the day was Ravioli – so much for Spanish tapas. So we took the matter up with Golfbreaks asking why they recommended this hotel/golf complex so highly in view of all the problems we encountered. The reply from customer service? Oh we just publish details of the venue that we are provided by the hotel. So Golfbreaks sells you products that they have no first hand knowledge of and make no attempt to validate it. Golf specialists? My eye. They claim to have product teams. If that is the case, they need an upgrade.
Avoid this hotel at all costs. It can only lead to dismay. The Forest course is good so if you want to play it, stay elsewhere. And don't book anywhere with Golfbreaks. Their business model is nonsense and borders on misselling.
