Golf Weekend

Last year we had our inaugural golf weekend, at Heron's Reach Blackpool which suited us fine - £200, 3 rounds 2nights bed breakfast evening meal, and some nightlife - such as blackpool does!
I agreed to organise it for this year - and in the back of my mind i'd got skegness, north shore, lined up. I've just got their quote & they're looking at £290, which they may be able to justify, but I can't!

I know this has been asked a few times before, I've done a quick search, but the pressure's on me to come up with some recommendations soon! golf breaks website comes up with plenty options but I would really welcome any suggestions anyone has of courses that welcome a group of mid to high handicappers, (prefer to play same course 3 times) reasonable accommodation & nightlife!?

I've just come back from Yarmouth, we did 3 golf courses:

Yarmouth and Caister - £25pp incs lunch
Marriott Sprowston Manor - £20
Caldecott Hall - £29 (saturday)

Luckily our accomadation was free due to misses p's owning a lodge on a haven site there.

Nightlife is average, cold evenings now though, but when it picks up may not be to bad.

Try Greetham Valley (2 courses plus a par 3) will need a taxi for nightlife beyond local pubs but Stamford is OK and just down the A1.

Belton Woods (2 Courses) and nightlife in Grantham is fine. Beer in the hotel is pricey but no need to stay at the venue.

I'll second that.

I'd recommend Woodhall but no good for your budget if you want more than one night...And the nightlife leaves er...a little to be desired!

If you like the seaside, then there's always Scarborough.

You've got Scarborough South Cliff Golf Club or Scarborough North Cliff Golf Club.

Both of these take 2-Fore-1 vouchers which would bring the cost right down.

If you'd like to have one really memorable round in your weekend, then Ganton Golf Club is a short drive away. It's hosted the Ryder Cup, Walker Cup and Curtis Cup and is a very special golf course. It's expensive but if you're up for 36 holes in a day, then the day rate is pretty good value.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the replies, I'll have a look into these, scarborough impressed me on a day trip with family (don't really know what i was expecting!) so that's probably a good option, not too far.

I'll get my memorable course round this year in July when i go to Celtic Manor with father in law & brother in law, this one is a sort of stag do replacement now we are all married (at least once!) so golf important but not everything!

Scarborough is quite fun and the courses are pretty good especially for mid to high handicappers and, 2-Fore-1s, you're looking at less than £70 for 3 rounds of golf which should leave plenty in the kitty for accommodation as there's loads and loads of B&Bs there.
