Earlier this year i started a Golf Society here, and whilst initial interest was very positive, it's waned a little of late.

Anyone got any fun ideas concerning formats for future events, rather than the tried & tested stableford monthly medal?

Also, any novel suggestions to help encourage players to play at a reasonable pace, as of late we've had a few 5+ hour rounds, which is rather painful!!

I like the idea of putting people in pairs and let them choose which of the two drives to use. They then both continue from there with their own ball and score stableford points as usual. It eliminates a few painful recovery shots which speeds things up and makes a bit of banter.

We are a society anyway, (kind of) just get ya name down for one of the upcoming events and the formats etc will all be taken care of.

We have had a very succesful Ryder cup style match ENG vs SCOT.

You could always organice a local meet in your area to start with and play some kind of team format

Off the topic Praguegit, I had the best golf holiday ever last year in Prague, played Konopiste,Plzen and a 9 holer that name escapes me in centre of Prague that was great.Plzen was as good a track as I have played in Europ!

Oh and the after golf was pretty damn good as well!! :D

Well if you ever make it back over here then give me a shout and i'd be happy to meet up for a round - there are some excellent new tracks at places like Liberec, Mlada Boleslav and Beroun

Konopiste - easy course, though very pleasing on the eye - which track did you play, Radecky or D'Este?

Golf Park Plzen (Dysina) is tough going, especially if you try walking round!

The 9 hole you played would have been either Hostivar, Hodkovicky or the very unfriendly Golf Club Praha (Motol)

I regularly play in a society, last of the season on Thursday. While it's true most games are Stableford we don't stop at one round.

1st and last of the season are usually 27 holes (for some reason 31 this time), simply down to the light. There is always a 'trophy' comp, with the usual nearest the pins thrown in (don't do longest drives as it automatically excludes half the field).
The second rounds are a mixture, mostly team comps (the teams are mixed up every time so no one person or group wins everything), texas scrambles, yellow balls, team medals, stablefords, 4-club.

Having a ruthless handicap sec keeps everything above board.

Radecky...I think it was Hostivar....a smart lass works behind the reception and it has an indoor centre....great fun course and it was in great condition.

If we were to be back I think it may be up to Karlovy Vary (sp?) as I hear it is nice and great for golf too,
