Been roped into help with the annual company Golf. It is funny how everyone in the company seems to be 28 HC. It’s my first time at the firm.
We have always had Texas Scramble - I haven’t played it but the rules look straightforward.
The teams have been picked and it has a mix of various HCs as a Texas Scramble should ease any beginners. Now at this late moment, someone has come along to say that we need to find a way for one group to play against another ie the annual company trophy will be between Sales v HR v Finance etc.
The challenge as I see it
1) The current teams are mixed representation ie some finance, hr et al
2) In Texas Scramble, you pick up as soon as someone in the group holes it. So individual scores don’t count. So there might be an HR guy who never finishes the hole
3) We could form dedicated teams of HR or Finance folks but there is no way to monitor any bad behaviour and also does not encourage people to have fun and bond

So in a nutshell, looking for ideas on how to solve this problem where we can award the annual trophy to a group while still retaining the fun and mixing up angle.

Finally any more ideas on competition welcome.. we already have Longest Drive and NTP

Thanks in advance

What happened to the last employee to try and sort this out ?

Back to original question ...

As you say, you cant add up individual scores because not everyone plays every shot.

But how about everyone has to putt out ? First ball in hole counts as the score for the " Texas team" score as per normal texas rules. But after the first outt, everyone marks their ball where it lies, & continues to putt until their ball is in the hole and you add up their putts to give a total. A bit contrived, but could work?

That is what I am thinking. Though this means more time to go around. Equally we might save time by doing a shotgun start rather than just front & back

I'd keep it as it is to save getting too convoluted but how about adding a 'departmental' putting competition (if there's a decent practice putting green)?

Early starters can do it after their round whilst waiting for the last groups to come in, late starters do it before their round

We might have found a way of doing this in a way that avoids having department teams as well as sandbagging/incorrect markings. Below is the proposed way forward...

Bingo bango bongo was one of my favourite formats in society events

Bingo- first player to land on green
Bango - nearest the pin after everyone's on
Bongo - first to hole out

So say you get 30 points as a 8 handicapper but ur average bandit has scored more you might get a level playing field here as you get an extra point for holding the green first etc

Makes it very close
