Why promote gps apps for the iPhone if their against r and a rules. I've just been bitten by this and although I have two great apps On my phone I'm forced in a way to buy a gps stand alone unit as it's not deemed legal. If the apps are not allowed why promote the new golfshot gps, is this encouraging people to break the rules

Because a vast number of people don't play in competitions.
If you're playing solo or a social with mates you can use it.

And why have 2 front covers, well a front and a back but the back is upside doon so I have picked it up umpteen times already and opened it to discover I have it upside down!!

Most annoying but no doubt there will be an explanation that involves coin.

Great write up about the TM driver fitting, just wish young Screwback was in a position to show me the extra length it has given him means I'm only giving him 20 off the tee now.... :D

Pay a couple of pound for a strokesaver and add more detail to it. Thats what i did

Also an iphone 3(non gs version) is legal. You could swap your shiney new phone for one of them

It's been allowed at my club in competition play by the competitions secretary. Ask your club to look I to it if you really want to use it, but then again you don't have to use a GPS.

Losttheplot. To be exact my club has no issue with it being used, they have made it open knowledge to all smart phone users what is available for free via app store etc to make the playing field level as such.

My issue comes from situations like the coming weekend. the club has asked me to play in the daily mail match play comp ad it states in the rules that no gps smart phones are allowed, specific gps units and range finders only. Now if it's come up in this it will no doubt cone up tine and again until r&a update the ruling, do I use it in weekly games and not in inter club comps and Play the waiting game hoping the r&a adapt/update the rule, or do I just save the head aches and get a golf gps.

What it does make me wonder is with all these smart phones having golf gps apps, us it going to get to the point where by your not allowed to take you smart phone to the course for fear of using some of the apps that you may have installed on it?
