Golf memberships.. How far would you travel??

. I'll be playing 3 rounds a week on average too and don't think this local course will improve my game as much as the courses further away.

I'm not sure a course will necessarily make you a better or worse player. You could play on the widest, easiest course ever, you're still going to want to hit the fairways and the greens.
Join where you feel suits you from the perspective of the course itself, the distance and the practice, and maybe the social side.
As someone who had a choice of 5 or 6, I went with the closest, more chances to play, more chances to enjoy, more chances to improve.

Can you post which ones you are thinking of......

If the easy and close one is a car park of a place, I'll tell you and save you the embarrassment of naming and shaming....

Oh, and remember, the SCRATCH score of the course will sort out your h'cap. To get cut at mine, I need to play to 9 or 10 maximum, which is tough given the tightness of the course.
I'd rather this than play at a longer course with wider fairways......then again, I'm not interested in getting cut, so it suits me.

Personally the locality of the course played a factor in my recent choice as well as financial. Enville is a very nice course (twice) but it's a bit of a drive for 9 holes and the joining fee is ......

Go local and others have said if it's lost its challenge then time to move or with you playing off scratch I am sure you'll be in the team playing away a lot anyhow.

No more than 20mins to be honest, anything further i doubt i'd get my moneys worth or use the pracice ground and course as much as i do now. Where i am now if i fancy a quick 7 holes practice on my own i'm there and back in 1hr 30mins ish.

I think the local course is going to be the one I opt for I think. Will be joining in a few weeks so I'm looking forward to it.
Overall the decision has come down to membership fee/joining fees, location, and practicality such as facilities and also the fact that if eastenders is on I can nip out for a quick couple of holes... :)

I went and played my local course today with the thought of joining tomorrow if I was happy. I must admit I'm not sure at all now. Quite a few of the holes run side by side to eachother (as most courses have) and was finding balls flying across fairways including mine once, and quite often your more concerned with the person shooting towards you but on the next fairway.
I should bare in mind I will play most of my golf during the day when it will be quieter and this should not bother me too much.
So all in all not quite sure. Let's see how quiet it is in the morning when I play another discounted round as a potential member.
