Following a 6 month winter program and my handicap coming down from 14 to 11 this season, I have embarked on another winter program under the supervision of Kevin Craggs. Program consists of 2 x 2 hour sessions over a month with follow ups (emails, telephone discussions etc).

My handicap should be lower than 11, main problem remains my inability to have a consistent swing, much to Kev's (and my) frustration! This winter is going to be mainly short game (<120 yards) and putting, on the proviso I finally nail my swing.

Spent the last few months at the range trying to keep hands high at top of backswing and groove a good tempo, so it was with lots of optimisim I rolled up for my first video session.

Flat! Very flat, in fact flatter than I have ever been! On top of that I was whipping the club inside, and tipping my shoulders which also contributed to the flatness. Other than that it was pretty good.

So, after a bit of stick from Kev, onto the drills. first off I was just taking the club back halfway, checking club was in plane, turning to the top then hitting. Whilst doing this I was trying to keep the shoulder turn almost parallel in order to stop the tipping motion.

Had a tendency to hit over the top, so we worked on hitting the ball with my left foot placed well behind my right to promote hitting from the inside.

Was striking the ball well doing this, really felt the hands whipping through. Did loads of these, then for variety threaded a broomshaft through my belt loops (to co-ordinate body movement) and hit some more balls. Again ball striking was good in the main, a few shanks, but not too bad under the circumstances.

Overall, very disappointed in my swing. Have to work loads on my shoulder turn, got a good 20 minutes practice in front of the bathroom mirror when I got home, the missus was a bit puzzled though!!

Apologies if it's a bit of a waffle, it's a stream of conciousness post, can't be arsed proof reading what I have written .
I don't mind posting these wee reports if people don't mind reading them??

Having given you my golfing diary for September why don't you give us your Winter blog say on a monthly basis and tell us how its going, what drill work well and what didn't.

I am also looking to continue my improvement (down from 20 to 15) and looking to focus on the 100 scoring zone. Tempo is my big problem especially getting too quick.

I look forward to reading your next update

Happy golfing

Any more tips for not tipping would be appreciated. It's my bugbear. Think I've conquered it then 'someone' tells me 'You're dipping your left shoulder again' aagh. (Someone sometimes gets it in the neck).

I really struggled with the feeling of this one, I couldn't tell when I was doing it or not.

I was at the range last night, and just concentrated on trying to make my right shoulder go straight back. Obviously very hard to examine on your own!!

Another potential way of minimising the tip is to keep the legs and hips stable!

Any more anti-tipping tips will be passed straight on!!

Had a tendency to hit over the top, so we worked on hitting the ball with my left foot placed well behind my right to promote hitting from the inside.

Should the right foot not be well behind the left to encourage an inside path to the ball??
