As the clubs are coming back out again for a new season of golf, I'm thinking about getting insurance for the first time. Is it really worth it?

I see Golf Care massively undercut The Golfer's Club and Golf Plan (who seem to be the three biggest companies between them) but is it at a massively reduced service?

Anyone else out there insured and have any good or bad tales to tell?

Thanks!

I'm with the Golfers Club, and fortunately haven't had to use it yet. I think in today's claim culture its essential to have back up - or if you get a hole in one!!

Whilst it's not the cheapest, the vouchers they send through for 2-4-1 etc more than pay for outlay.

Would be interested to hear what happens when a claim is made though.

word of warning from an insurance bore....

read the small print very very carefully, especially if wanting cover against theft !

I'm with Golf Care and never had to make a claim ( not even for a hole in one, bah! )
They also, for an extra tenner cover North America which for me is essential.
It worries me that thuosands of golfers must have no household insurance or specific golf cover and even those with household insurance may not be fully covered.
IMO all golf club members should be required to show proof of insurance cover to maintain membership.
Visitors to golf courses should do the same; if not the clubs should have a 3rd party liability insurance cover in place with the visitor paying a small premium as I have to do on one occasion only; £2.50 comes to mind.
This subject was posted about a tear ago, since when silence.
Thanks for raising it again.

I am with golf plan, got. A dozen Nike soft balls and some free game vouchers :) all for about £23

How did you manage that I cant find it on their website for less than £49, although that still seems very good, considering the cover offered?

I am not so worried about the cost involved if my gear was stolen as it is covered with my home insurance. What worries me more nowadays, is if I accidentally injure someone. We live in such a culture of reperation and suing that I dread to think what would happen if I clobbered somebody and one of the injury lawyers got their teeth into the case.
That is why I have seperate golf cover.

My mistake, it is golf care

It may not be as necessary as you think. Go to this link and read the news article

Insurance?

Maybe common sense is starting to come back to America and you know what they say "If it happens in USA it will make it's way here in a couple of years"

Shark

I have the Golfers Policy endorsed by the EGU. It's about 30 odd quid and covers clubs abroad, hole in one, 3rd party damages etc etc. If you keep your clubs in a locker then they are probably not covered on your house contents, check it out, don't just assume they are covered. Overall, like any insurance you are really just paying for peace of mind when you carve one into someones garden/house/car/teeth, at least you can say it will be sorted with some sort of confidence.

Exactly my reasoning it could destroy your life/lose your home with the costs involved in a court case.

The link and article was specific to one case. the guy shanked his shot and hit his playing partner. He didn't have time to shout 'fore'. Secondly he would have still had to pay out a fortune defending himself.
Whaddy reckon three appeals, through various courts...upwards of 50k? Could you afford it?

40 quid a year sounds cheap now doesn't it?

What I was meaning was that once there has been a trial case like this, the cases won't go to court. I will still keep my insurance for all the other things not involved in this case. You never know insurance cover may go down due to this case.

Yeah I'm looking for this year too, not too bothered about free vouchers as I've joined my club. Just need clubs covered by theft etc, third party liability and fees covered, let me know if anyone finds any good deals.

I got the vouchers for the free round at a hotel chain course.
Not a lot of use imo. Mid-week only, only as part of a four-ball where the other three are paying full whack and in the main overly expensive courses. oh, and miles from me.

watch out for the club coverage - wasn't the first question asked of one of the forumers when he had to claim 'who is your contents insurance with?'

I used thegolfersclub.co.uk mainly because I wanted peace of mind and there are plenty of courses where me and my mate can use the 241 vouchers :) (actually works out free for the insurance when compared to savings made on fee's.

also got a srixon cap and 3 nike balls (balls I will use and cap my son has claimed)... not bad really, think it cost 37 quid or something similar

if anyone is going with them please let me know as can use the recommend a friend and get some freebies (may aswell)
