A friend of mine recently told me that house insurance doesnt cover golf equipment and I should go for some specialist insurers.

Ive got about £2500 of golf equipment, can anyone recommend any good companies?

You can normally get extended cover with your contents insurance. Not sure if this in any cheaper than a specialist policy, although a specialist policy tends to cover more then theft etc. e.g. hole-in-one insurance (if only).

There was a flyer in last months mag for the following:

www.thegolfersclub.co.uk/gm

which I've been considering. You get quite a few freebies included in the £38 price.

There seem to be quite strict policy conditions on most of these policies so worth reading it carefully before your proceed.

Depends how much your "home" policy covers you for non-specified items. If you had a set worth £300 you'd probably find they'd just send you a cheque. If you asked them to replace a £2k set and hadn't told them, you'd be politely told to sling your hook.

Specialist insurance is a MUST of you a) have expensive clubs and b) are worried about being sued in the event of damaging someone or something on the course.

I'd be annoyed if my clubs got nicked, but it would be a good excuse to get a new set :)
As for being sued......I don't lose sleep over it.

I've taken out golf insurance more for the 3rd party cover than anything else (oh and the hole-in-one of course :p; though that is not without a bag load of qualifying restrictions, just don't do it outside a qualifying comp).

they never asked what I had, just what the total value was. Most seem to have set 'packages' mostly based on this. I have heard of companies that, in the event that you claim, will counter-claim against your household insurance.

i can the point in insuring your clubs but i do not see the point in insuring loss of eyes and stuff like that it seems pointless and exspensive if you ask me

it's third party cover - the other guy that you might hit. personal injury cover is there, on some, but to my mind not the most important - unless you are the other guy and the one that hits you isn't insured.

don't be surprised if, in the no so very distant future, it will be a requirement.

I went out and bought golf insurance the day after I sliced a 3 wood that went like a missle a foot or so off the ground and through some blokes legs 50 yards away...
