I've never heard of insure4golf but I would be inclined to phone golfcare, tell them that you want to pay the same as new customers, PLUS you want all the free stuff they get. If they decline then cancel your cover on the spot.

Customer retention in insurance is the name of the game and I'd be very disappointed not to get what I asked for.

Steve, I got the same called golf care told them I wouldn't pay more than £30 for a years insurance so surprise they gave it to me for £29.99 and I got the benefits etc.

It's easy to say how little we pay for golf insurance, but it would be interesting to hear if anybody had any experience making claims so we can make comparisons. I would rather pay a higher premium for peace of mind and good service, than cheap and cheerful. Is it a case of "You get what you pay for" ???

Am I the only one that doesn't bother with insurance?

No, I would say the vast majority of golfers who play don't bother. Only reason I took it out was the offers to sign-up were worth more than the premium, i.e. 2-fore-1 vouchers and 5 free rounds. I've already played Celtic Manor (Monty) and Spey Valley for free using the vouchers I received and played The Manor House (Castle Coombe) for half price (2-fore-1) this year so I've already saved money.

This should be the case for all insurances. I work in the travel insurance trade and I'm constantly told by my re-sellers that their customer can get cheaper policies online, have got free cover with their bank and so on. Yet when it comes to claim, they are surprised to see how little they are covered for. Then even ask the agent to help them sort out the mess it creates. Insurance should be about quality of cover and customer service not how low the premium is.

What I will say though is never just automatically renew any insurance policy. Insurers operate a two tier market. One tier of rates for new customers and one for current customers. Always shop around at renewal and always say to your current provider you want their best deal.

Saying the above the, the only insurance I know of that doesn't operate like this is travel insurance but then it is a slightly different market from house and car etc.

Also, if you've not claimed you should expect a discount on renewal as you've not cost the insurer any money in pay outs.
