Going to Tenerife at the end of August with the family, and we are staying at Santa Barbara Golf and Ocean Club in Golf del Sur. I'm looking to get a round in at one of the 2 courses near our complex during the 2 weeks we are there, so was wondering if anybody knows the best way to book and hire clubs if you are a single player. Will they put me in to make up a 3/4 ball, or will they just not allow me to play since I am by myself?

If there are no packages through your operator or hotel just turn up as early as possible and the starter will sort you out a game.

Always worth asking the hotel if they have any arrangements. Often it's a free bus or they will sort you a tee time and a game.

I've yet to play on my own throughout Tenerife and Madeira as well as further abroad.

My only advice is ask ask ask, if you can do it in their language even better!

Just book direct with the course, send them an email, they are all very good there. Abama is phenomenal but pricey, Las Amricas and Costa Adeje are ok and average about 50-60 euro for a round

I booked our round through the hotel, as it gave 10% discount on the green fees. All in, for 18 holes at Amarilla in Golf Del Sur for me and my son (a junior), including 2 sets of clubs and a buggy, it cost 105 euro

I usually go to Portugal and looked into this approach but when I contacted Oceanio Golf direct they wanted paying straight away by bank transfer which I didn't like the sound of. I usually use teetimes.pt, they give a slight discount, charge by credit card and only take the final payment a few weeks before the tee time date.

I think I will try this and get in touch with the hotel. Thanks

The Wild Geese bar restaurant is straight across from the Santa Barbara, they have a golf society that play the Amarillo course every Monday.
Ask for Ben the barman he runs it, he might be able to get a set clubs too, try and give him a few days notice.
Costs about 35 euros sharing a buggy and playing a stableford comp price includes sandwiches chips and a pint back at the pub afterwards.
Be prepared for a long round.

Yep, had lunch there one day. very nice sandwiches and chips. didn't know about the golf, though. Maybe next time we go...

If you get the chance to play at Abama GC at Ritz-Carlton Abama resort in Tenerife, do so !

It has the most spectacular views over the sea to La Gomera, is manicured to within an inch of it's life, and the greens make Augusta National's seem like child's play. I highly recommend it. I think the green fees might be about 200 Euros a round (we stayed at the hotel so golf was included), but it's one of the most spectacular courses in the world.

Anyone live down there?

Likely to be somewhere in the Canary Islands from the end of January for 3 months or so..

Could do with getting away from this cold weather...

Oh Goody :-) Off to there in Dec. for a week. Sounds fab.

Roops, Abama even have wooden chiller boxes at several tees where you help yourself to bottled water and fruit. It's an amazing course and a real 5 star hotel. You won't believe the green speeds and slopes though !

Just back from the Abama. Spot on re the whole place, just amazing, and the greens......Jesus, they are tricky blighters. Lots of slopes back to front, quick, double breakers, hogs backs etc etc. Fairly easy driving course, not much danger off the tee, but it's a real test of your short game. Grabby rough, slick/firm raised greens (You can't see the bottom of the flag on many of the holes). Greens are mostly laid left to right, so you are hitting onto narrow landing areas. Great course and stunning views.
