First day without using fairway mats and having to play off damp ground. Not good, with many thinned irons! I hope those of you South of the border enjoy your time back on the course.

We finished mats last weekend.
Played yesterday and today. Takes a bit getting used to.
Much easier hitting off the deck into the 30mph winds this weekend.

I didn't use my mat, or rarely used my mat this winter.

Preferred kicking the ball into the first cut so I'm not having to adjust hitting off turf again.

Is that allowed at your place? If not putting in WHS score we are asked to use our mat from the semi too. I'm fine with that.

Mats to be used in the semi at Blair, although it is sometimes difficult to tell the difference. Very little growth yet as temps are still low.

We have one course with mats all winter and the other course no mats so I always play the no mats course thru the winter.

Sadly not Gullane, no chance of me ever getting in there ??

I'm in Cumbernauld.

In the olden days they did not do divoting at Gulllane,
The greenstaff cut 3" deep turfs with a hole cutter.
One fairway at a time with about 12 staff, six cutting six replacing and removing.
It was like painting the Forth Bridge, finish 18 holes and start again.
It would be interesting to know if this still happens.

In all my years playing at Gullane, I've never seen that. But when were the "Olden Days"?

Yeah it's been allowed since I've been a member. We'd get an email to say if the weather was to be especially bad then to use a mat from the semi but that only happened a couple of times.
