Hey, I'm a retired ex-pat now living in portugal and I play golf as often as I can. What I want to know is: have you played in the Algarve before? If so, where? And how long ago?

Let's start a discussion about the 36 courses accross southern Portugal. My favourites are Boavista, Penina, the Faldo Course and San Lorenzo. But I've always found most of the golf here a bit expensive, does anyone know of any deals I could get? Not necessarily a special price on 3 or 7 days of golf in a villa somewhere, because that's really no good to me as I already have a house in Albufeira. But any discount will be a great excuse to tee-off!

Anyway, enough about me, let's talk golf Algarve!

I'm going next week funnily enough!

We have 2 days booked, different courses. Only £40 per round which includes golf club hire AND buggy hire!!

Well happy with that deal, £80 for 2 rounds of golf and we get to play silly buggers in a buggy too ;-)

I know that once of the rounds is at a place called Oceanico Laguna if that helps?

Lovely Place

Villamoura:

Old Course - Cracking course and one of my all time favs
Val de lobo - Pretty good and the 16th on the ocean course (i think( is over the beach)

Villa Sol - Portugals Woburn IMO

San Lorenzo is very nice aswell.

Jealous now, have fun

Oh, excellent!

I hope that you enjoy the trip.
The only problem that I've had is, as a current resident of the Algarve, whenever I want to play golf I can find no really suitable deals for regular players, only tourists like, I believe, yourself...

Anyway, you seem to be getting a good deal there, they are usually pretty dear courses to play on.
Have fun!

Just sorting out a trip for March next year when we will be playing Old Course/Victoria/Faldo/O'Connor, is the weather ok & what would be the best time to tee-off to avoid the crowds & be in plenty of time to finish before dark?

Ah, yes. I've played on the old course before. Can't disagree on the views around there. Talking of great scenery, have you tried the Quinta do Vale, near the Portuguese-Spanish border on the far east of the Algarve, just sitting in clubhouse gives you outright shivers....

Thanks for posting ;)

That's great stuff.
March is usually pretty good, it's April time that tends to be more uncertain with rain and winds... There' an old Portuguese proverb about it, in fact: "April thousand showers" (Abril, águas mil)
Teeing-off... I would say before 9:30am if you can, that avoids most of the late sleepers.
I don't mean to pry, and please feel free not to answer this, but do you get discounts on playing all 4 of them in a certain number of days? Because I'm fed up with paying full rates here....

Cheers ;)
Cheers ;)

I am at graft at the moment but I will post up later a Society of ex pats based in Carvoeiro that play regular and get fantastic rates.....I have joined them a couple of times and are all a good bunch...if a bit old. ;)

Thank you for that.
I'll have a look into them. But I'm really looking for discounts on various courses around the Algarve, although Pestana is quite nice ;)
If you hear of anything else please let me know. I'm restlessly searching at the moment, and I really do appreciate your help.
Cheers :)

That's brilliant considering how it isn't always easy to get on that course. But you always feel that it's not quite as cheap as you might get in the UK, don't you??? Forgive me, I'm a bit frugal...
Anyhow, that is priceless information.
Thank you very much ;)
