The chill today has us looking at a sunny break in May. Seems very cheap flights really are a thing of the past although fares to Lisbon are pretty cheap and Your Golf Travel features a few golfing breaks to the area around Lisbon.

Has anyone played venues in that area? Any recommendations/feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I am going to Pinha longa in march. Apparently it is very nice, but expensive. The other courses I have been recommended are praia del rai and otivos dunes. These were suggested by friends who have been loads of times. I am sure there are more.

Went last year to Aroeira Golf Resort has two courses to play both very good. Bit of a budget option, i think £150 for 3 days with unlimited golf. For the money it was fantastic.

Thanks guys. The deal at Aroeira Golf Resort sounds great still on YGT and reviews say the courses are nice and also quiet? Seems the 2nd course is a trek from the clubhouse?

Yeh very quite managed to easily get in 2 rounds on each full day. We did go middle of February so maybe busier in May. The actual site is huge so it depends on which apartment you get given. But it is most likely going to be a quick drive to both courses. The apartments were pretty good, had everything you needed.

I am going away at the end of the week to Malaga. We couldn't of timed it any better!:D

Went a while back and played Estoril and Quinta da Marinha. Estoril is like an English Club, lot of ex pats. Good courses, recommend you stay at Cascais, and make sure you vist the Casino at Estoril. HID will love the dancing girls ! Lisbon is a lovely capital city, very friendly, and you can get to it by train, so no need to take the car. Been meaning to go back again.

Praia del Rey about an hour north of Lisbon is a very good links course. There is a Marriott hotel and loads of holiday homes nearby.

A couple of older options south of Lisbon worth considering are Troia and Areoira.

Troia is across on a ferry from Setubal and is a ferociously difficult links course which held the Portuguese Open in the past. Areoira is a 36 hole set up with 2 very nice courses in pine forests in the Setubal area too.

Hi Amanda,

I have played a few courses around Cascais. Penha Longa is excellent and so is Quinta da Marinha. Oitavos Dunes is ranked #1 in Portugal and this is frankly laughable. It is hugely overrated, ridiculously expensive and very poor value for money. One to be avoided.

I put a couple of reviews on these courses on http://www.top100golfcourses.co.uk/htmlsite/productdetails.asp?id=582 - Mine is the first review on Penha Longa.

http://www.top100golfcourses.co.uk/htmlsite/productdetails.asp?id=567 - mine is the second review from April last year - 3 ball rating!

Regards,

Snelly.
