Most of the top courses are £70.00 Plus per round, but if your on a budget you could try Southport Old links which is about £30.00. It's a 9 whole course that can be played as 18, with different tees for the second 9, but i'm not sure if the fee is for 9 or 18 holes, you will need to check this out. Southport also has an 18 hole municipal which is less than £20.00. If you travel 20 mins back towards Liverpool, there's Bootle (my home club). This a Pay & Play and will cost under £13.00 at the weekend. This is classed as an "Inland Links", and is a really tough test. If all the other courses are closed then Bootle is usually open and you will be on the greens, (great drainage) it's very unusual for them to use temps.

I would have joined you, but i'm off to Scotland (without my Clubs) on Saturday.

Hope you have a great time, and let me know how you get on?

Have to agree with golfer1 the majority of courses in this area will be £70 plus. Formby is a superb links course but the green fee is £115. A friend of mine is a member there and it drops to £20 with him which is an absolute bargain.

I have to agree, 2 years ago I wouldn't have played there (if i wasn't a member), in fact i remember entering as many away comps as i could, but the condition of the course has improved alot. This could have something to do with the company (that leases the course), looking to get a 75 year lease, and plans are now in place for a driving range and a new club house to be built.
