hi all

am going away for a week tomorrow to cumbria and hoping to get quite a few rounds in while im there.

does anyone no of any decent courses in the area ? and do you have any experiences of playing them ?

thanks

It's 20 years since I playd Silloth but a mate and I went for 5 days every year for 4 years.

It's a really good links course, lots of blind shots and no semi rough. It's not long but by hell it punishes wayward shots. At £32 for a full day ticket (mon-fri), I think it's a bloody good deal.

Their website says 7 day annual membership is £355!!!!! That's gotta be one of the bargains of the British golfing world.

hi, whereabouts in cumria are you going to ?, i used to live up there, there are plenty more than decent courses there, if your on the coast, silouth is the best of the links , then seascale next to sellafield, if your more inland then penrith and workington are probaly the best, keswick is also a good track, dont play cockermourth, its damned hard work and the fairways not up 2 much, aspatria is also a lovely 9 hole course with a the opening hole a 250 yard par 3 ... lets hope you get good weather for it

I live in the South of Cumbria.

Silloth is the best track with Seascale and Carlisle second. Silloth and Seascale are difficult to get to especially Seascale.

I play at Ulverston which is very good with great views of The Old Man of Coniston and Morecambe Bay. Windermere is pricey and short, Kendal is hilly.

There is a great links course at Furness near Barrow, 7th oldest in Uk. Kirby Lonsdale is a good track with friendly staff.

On the way up consider Lancaster which is off Junction 33 of M6. Well worth a detour;excellent greens and great clubhouse.

I was a member of Silloth for a few years when I lived in Carlisle. It is a fantastic track, in my opinion, although with some blind shots you may enjoy it better second time round.

The membership and staff are friendly and it is well worth a run if you are anywhere near.

Penrith is also a nice track.

At £32 for a full day ticket (mon-fri), I think it's a bloody good deal.

I think you'll find it's £45 in the summer. BUT, even if you only go round once, that's great value for such a good course.
