Golf course close to St Helens for lSeniors Society

Hello all,

Looking for a decent track, not too hilly, quite scenic, local (25 mins drive) to St Helens that can offer a society day for 12 people including buggies for £20 - £30 for mid march.

also looking for a few more relatively flat courses as above for around £20 - £25 for a day out.

They expect a bacon barm before and meal after.

Any help appreciated

It may be on the edge of the 25 minutes, but I enjoyed Stand golf club (near Whitefield,Manchester). It was cheap to play in one of their opens, so I think you may get a good deal. Not necessarily good views but a nice course, a bit hilly so get buggies.

Several flat courses near me, apart from mine, there is Swinton Park, Worsley, Worsley Marriot all just off the East Lancs.

Grangepark in St Helen's is a good track. Played there a few times with a mate. Food was good too. Might be at the top end of your budget though.

north west national - great course. lots of variation even though its pretty flat. they should have the buggies as its well kitted out. range and bacon barms all round!

Merseyvalley or fiddlers ferry both are flat and offer catering and within budget might not have buggies for 12 though if already booked

No Buggies and more than 25 mins from St Helens

If you’re hiring buggies why does it matter if it’s hilly or not? . From St.Helens myself and know all the courses.


Houghwood is an idea society venue, but it is a bit hilly but with plenty of buggies. good club house and food
Mersey Valley is flat as pancake but not sure about buggies.
Nothwest national new impressive course, has not got club house yet but can get bacon butties in driving range café, but you won’t get a meal afterwards and no bar
Grange park private members owned, and may be out of price range
Alder root is just 10 hole with 18 tees. Flat and very popular seniors club, nice clubhouse and very cheap. Only a couple of buggies.
Eccleston park, you’ll get all you want but may not be impressed with course. I’m not

Few nice courses mentioned... I enjoyed Worsley, and they have a lovely clubhouse.... Also Haydock is worth a look. Nice tight course, all be it pretty short....

Not played it for about 10 years but I didnt think it was too bad then, plenty of water and lots of young saplings, although I suspect that they will have thinned out the trees as they matured. The club was up for sale last year, not sure if a buyer found so may not currently have any investment being made

found the staff nice and friendly but it was just the course bored me silly. so flat it was unbelieveable.

Leigh is worth a look, although the website is a bit rubbish so there's not much go off

Pretty decent course though, buggys and a good clubhouse and facilities. Not to far from st Helen's too.

Have a look at Bolton old links too, it's up int'thills but does it matter if you've got buggys? You won't get better scenery.

would agree with this. Ashton is a nice course. 6inch will confirm the condition of the 2 new holes and the 18th. Great pro and clubhouse. Price might be a factor though.
