It's the rare time I have a bet (apart from the Casino, poker games, lottery and bounce games:rolleyes:)

Anyway, the odds intrigued me and I can really see why the bookies make so much money, the return on some of these bets are IMO ridiculous- you'd make more just shoving it in a building society (well, not quite but I'm trying to emphasise a point)

Rory to win two, yes TWO Majors this year - 20/1 :mmm:

Westwood to win a major this year - 10/1 :mmm: Luke is 12/1 :mmm:

Darren Clarke to win this years Open - 150/1:rolleyes:

Rory's down as Favourite for the Players championship and The US PGA at 14/1 and 9/1 respectively:mmm:
Rory to win any Major this year - 10/3:eek:

yes theres a few Rory bets but based on his form you would think the bookies would be trying to tempt a bet, but these odds with his average form the last 6 mths isnt very attractive.....imo but of course you must remember...

I'm a very rare gambler:rolleyes:

You will rarely get a value bet from a bookie offering a tricked up market like that imo. Its for the blind punters who for example "ooo I really like Rory and hope he wins a major" so backs him.

Not really for somebody who thinks about what they are backing imo

so where should we go to get value?

I follow a person on twitter who gives tips out and to be honest they are pretty good normally! this week his tips are:

Players:
Sergio garcia win - 22/1
Kevin Na for a top 5 - 12/1
charley hoffman for a top 10 - 9/1

The odds above are with Skybet who are notoriously bad, you should be able to get sergio at 25/1, Na at about 20/1 and hoffman at about 20/1.

William hill do a weekly golf betting podcast,it's worth a listen.
Football one is brilliant with Ron Atkinson, good banter.

I actually feel betting on golf usually offers good value if your not sucked into the silly markets like you have highlighted that they create. Most bookies will pay out on placings 1-5 on major tournaments for each way bets. Although placings of 1-7 is not uncommon. I know Bet 365 are offering each way for placing 1-6 in the Players Championship.

Love a bet i Doooo

Having walked away with £381 two weeks back courtesy of Noh, i've done him again this week 125/1

Along with Speith 33/1, Ogilvy 150/1 and Matsuyama 100/1

with players like Rory and Tiger it can depend on the bookie to an extent but most will follow the market, so if someone comes in with say £5k or even 10k on him early they will slash the odds as they don't want any more money on him to protect their losses. You see this in Horse racing all the time and it works in a similar way with the top golfers. Best way to get value is to figure out who performs well on a certain course or who is bubbling under and due a win. Obviously this is not always easy so try and find a website or tweeter who is offering some good tips as mentioned above.

I found one for the Masters and was tipped Gary Woodland at 80/1 and looked pretty good for a while. Plus Bubba at 25/1 was huge on for a player who is so suited to that course and showed a nice return on my investment :)

Having a think about Sawgrass it is not particularly long, lots of Water, Bermuda greens, and coastal winds

so I will be having a look at players who are straight off the tee, solid irons, confident putters, and can play in the wind

G Mac and Donald spring to mind plus Sergio, Furyk, Oosthuizen, Molinari, Sticker, Duffner, Poults may all be in with a shout if they find some form.

Great round today! And Ogilvy was tied 2nd at -8 for some time and then faded with 3 bogeys
