Now I know there have been discussions before about the price of branded gear & that for a fraction of the price you can get normal polos/chinos/shirts from either High Street Retailers.

I have a selection of Slazenger polos courtesy of sports direct. Trousers & shorts from various, but....

:sbox: WARNING

As a 6'3" guy with a 54" chest, 44-46" waist I cannot find any branded gear available... Why is this? Is it because you are meant to be a slimmer bloke to play golf? Are larger guys not meant to be seen on the course? Why shouldn't we be able to wear a Rory McIlroy replica outfit if we want to?

Now I realise I may not have scoured every single golfing website & shop in the country, but I am yet to find a Footjoy/Under Armour/ Galvin Green top or trousers to fit.....

Anyone else have this problem?

It's a supply and demand issue, I imagine you are probably the biggest guy in most rooms you walk into, not much money in supplying to that tiny a percentage of the population.
You must find a similar challenge with "normal" non golf clothes?
I know there are specialist sites for that, but the market is much bigger than it is for golf specific stuff.

Have you spoken to any shops like American golf about special ordering in some stuff you like, in an appropriate size?

Admittedly I can't go shopping in the likes of Next/Topman etc, but I have found the wonders of jacamo & a even TK maxx occasionally.

The height well that's my dad's fault. The rest of it was being brought up as a 2nd row in rugby & a 2nd job as a nightclub doorman, which meant a bit of time in the gym etc as I used to get sent to some real hell holes of a weekend.

I did speak to AG & my local pro shop, but as you say, supply & demand means I am limited. I have even emailed a couple of brands directly & yes I get the same response.

But surely, I can't be the only guy in the world that likes to swing a few bats at the weekend of my size & build?

You may have to bulk buy and import from the US. Not a pallet load but 3-4 tops and trousers to cover the freight aspect. They have a plethora of larger figures out there and will stock accordingly. The brands you mention are aiming at athletic people and an athletic look I'm afraid and so I understand why they do not offer larger sizes.

If you were playing behind me on the course I would definitely let you play through without you even asking.

American imports must be the way to go or ask a friend who is going over on holiday maybe.

It must be possible, there are a lot of big fellas playing golf in the U.S., have you seen the size of Charles Barkley?! Even a sizeable unit such as yourself would be dwarfed by him.

Yeah it looks like that will be the only option. I just like to feel & see the stuff before I part with my readies...
That's understandable, imagine trying it on for size is fairly crucial too.

From the big brands you should be able to at least order stuff you have seen, albeit you've only seen smaller sizes.

Cheers all. The under armour size guide goes big enough, it's finding shops that stock it.

Maybe a few more emails out to the brands directly. But part of the problem is they don't often deal to a single person, they like to bulk sell......worth another try though.

Cheers all!

I agree with this. Sizing does seem to be a bit all over the place. In some mfrs I am a large, in others a medium. I have a large Nike top that looks like a tent but I like the colour so I keep it. Some tops, even with modern fabrics, are heavier some are thinnner.

I went to Florida last year for the first time and regret not filling my boots in one of the outlet stores. There was an UA shop that had a pile of golf gear at great prices and that could have seen me sorted for years. I did try one shirt on and was a small in US sizing so they do adjust for the home market! Unfortunately my kids had lost patience at this point and I missed out on a buying fest.

I am 5ft 9". After a while of being ignored at a bar you realise average height, just under to be fair, is not all it is cracked up to be. There is one bonus for you anyway.
