Both my brothers are teachers, so these last two years weve had a 'winter training camp' in Portugal08 and Tunisia 09, we are thinking the states next year as part of my 21st but thats a bit of a waste of time for a week as itll be my first time there.

Anyone got any recommendations? Opinions?

A group of us used to go to the Algarve in February but the weather at that time of the year was not too great and courses were pretty poor. Laterly we've been going to Tenerife where the weather is slightly better than Portugal, but with the weak pound against the Euro it was very expensive this year. Next year we are planning to go to Turkey as we've heard great reports.
We looked at the States and South Africa, but felt it was too long a flight for one week. One other venue to consider might be Dubai.

I was in SA on mission last year, it was awesome. There were a couple of courses we seen when we were in the more affluent areas...the looked dynamite.

Im not too sure about Dubai, we stopped there on our way to SA and it was wet!! The ehat was weird, it was like a steamroom all over!!! And was reekin of petrol/oil!

If you have never been, go and play the outstanding courses in Scotland. Why go abroad at huge expense when some of the worlds greatest courses are easily within reach "up North".

Instead of airfare, treat yourself to a round at Troon or Carnoustie or St Andrews, then play some outstanding smaller venues and cheaper venues to amortise the cost over the week.

That's what I would do.

Dubai is fantastic but I went to Turkey (Antalya) in March and can't fault it at all, already booked for next year.

Scotland is great as well but when I'm on holiday I want my shorts on and the sun on my back, not full waterproofs.

I would go play thsoe courses but the weather is always gash...either cold or windy...and then your game goes to pot!!

Id rather go somewhere warm...get the swing grooved in the sunshine...and go out and get melted at night =D

That's real golf! :D

I play all year round. Links courses are great for winter golf, but you might find some courses want you to play off mats on the fairways or kick the ball into the first cut of rough (Although courses like St. Andrews the firdt cut is better than some fairways).
As for cold, a jumper on wind cheater is all you need.
I'd still prefer the heat though. ;)

Belek - the Turkish answer to the Algarve.

About a dozen top quality courses within 10 miles. Great weather and not mega busy if you go at the right time.

Have a look here => http://www.golfturkey.com/ I played the Faldo, Montgomerie and Gloria courses in October last year, fantastic venues. The clubhouses are a site to behold too...amazing! Also played the Sultan, Pasha and the National (tight!)

You get some cracking deals on a stay and play at Gloria and Sirene too...4 or 5 rounds with a week's half board for £500ish. Though that was last year.
