Just want a chance to have a gripe really.
Last year I decided to set up a website for myself. Godaddy had a good deal on so I went with them. All has been fine. Just had notice of renewal through over the weekend so went to renew. Both hosting and domain registration needed renewing so I selected them both. Went through and it was quoting around £21 for the year. Happy days, good deal. Paid for it. Got the confirmation email through, and it's just the domain registration. So went back on and went to renew the hosting. The price is hiked 2.5x what it was when I signed up!!
I contacted them and asked them to reduce the price as that's ridiculous. Apparently it's their business model. Draw people in with cheap prices and then stiff them. People aren't likely to move on.
I did some research and have found a really good deal and decided to go with them. So I phoned up Godaddy and asked to cancel my domain registration. Apparently Nominet don't allow renewals to be cancelled. What a load of rubbish. I quoted the distance selling regulations to the woman who poo pooed me and told me there was nothing she could do. I was fuming by now as I had spent £21 to renew a domain that should be £7 max.
Did some delving and found their legal documents buried deep in their website with a 5 day grace period to cancel. Phoned them back and quoted verbatim from the regulations and suddenly they were all smiles, and happily refunded my product.
Unbelievable performance though. Avoid like the plague!
