Evening..........has anyone had there ball run over by a grass cutter?

this happend to me a few weeks back i was playing alone so wasnt that botherd as i just placed another ball down in the same spot and played on

but not sure on the proper ruling what should i have done and would i have a penalty for playing another ball?

Assuming the ball was at rest then Rule 18-1 would apply:- "If a ball at rest is moved by an outside agency, there is no penalty and the ball must be replaced." No penalty.

As for the damage then Rule 5-3 should apply:- A ball is unfit for play if it is visibly cut, cracked or out of shape....If it determined that the ball has become unfit for play during play of the hole being played, the player may substitute another ball placing it on the spot where the original ball lay..." No penalty.

I would suggest that if you could positively identify that the ball that had been "mown" was yours, then you would confirm with your playing partner/opponent that the ball was damaged and agree a suitable place to drop another similar ball without penalty. If you can't positively identify it then tough. It's a lost ball and you go back and replay under penalty.

I think....

What everyone else said.

On the other hand, if the Greenkeeper was running amok around the fairways with his mower during a competition at my track I'm sure he'd be finding one or more of his own balls in the grass cutter!
