9 intrepid forumers took on Formby hall today in weather consistent with the of rest this typical English Summer !!! At times, I thought snorkles and flippers were going to be more use than irons and putters. Although given the amount of sand LousieA and Scouser saw, I think a bucket and spade may also have been required :)

Despite the first 2 holes and the last 2 holes being rain free, it was pretty grim inbetween, yet everyone braved the elements and the course held up very well. The greens in particular remained true and ran at a decent pace.

Formby Hall is a great "resort" type course with plenty of water. I think it's a pretty fair test and I can see why its hosted a lot of Euro-pro tour events. It's very much a risk and reward course in that a good crunch with the driver will leave you a short iron in, but the fairways narrow and the water and many bunkers come into play in all the right (or wrong) areas.

Thanks to StuC, Birchy, LouiseA, BrammalMac, NWJ, Scouser, Liverbirdie and Karl102 for playing. Really enjoyed everyones company and look forward to sorting a few more NW meets in the future.

Oh, I almost forgot the result . . . . . . I had a nice hall of 39 points, Birchy came 2nd with 32 and LouiseA came 3rd with 30 pts. Longest drive was NWJ with a monster (GPS measured) 295 yards, and I snuck inside StuC's effor for nearest the pin. Special mention to scousers "magic wand", i've never seen so many long putt's go in. One must have been at leas 40ft.

Junior once again thanks for organising it. The course was in great condition ...the bunkers were inarticulate :rolleyes:....next time we just need the weather!

Ps did you have to mention my "magic wand" :o

PPS it was more like 50 ft :whistle:
 
Its probably only fair to mention Scouser's 2nd at the 1st where, with unerring accuracy, he managed to hit a 150 yds post barely as wide as the ball itself.
 
That was the only drive that didn't go sideways :).

As per comments, top marks for organising junior, a thoroughly enjoyable day despite the horrendous weather.... I was delighted to find out our tumble dryer had packed in when I got home!!

Superb play from junior today, level par back 9 in the worst of the weather was great to watch.

Thanks to scouser, junior and Louise for the company.

Look forward to the next NW meet, I'll leave the driver at home :whistle:
 
Well done to Junior for a great back 9 in dog awful conditions. To shoot level par in that on the back 9 deserves to win any comp!

Was a great day and hopefully we can arrange some more meets for the north west and build up the numbers :)

Thanks Louise. 2 x 2's were a rare surprise. Especially the first one where I had to hit the 4 iron of my dreams to get to the green !!

Not long in from the 4pm 2 ball!

Although I now have developed webbed feet, I really enjoyed my round with Liverbidie (who played very solid golf, 36 points in torrential rain).

The worst thing about playing in rain like that is raindrops falling off your hat when putting, BUT YOU WONT HAVE THAT PROBLEM WITH YOUR SOMBRERO. :)

The greens were very true and the ball rolled well. I finished with my starting ball - anyone else?

I'll be honest I had a great time and me and your Karl got on like a house on fire, I could have stayed out there for another 18. Great fella to share 4 hours with. We also had 14 soaking holes - Ooer.

Well I couldn't chase down your 39 points, 36 was my effort, but birdieing the 18th in front of the wedding party smokers was my highlight (all 3 of them).

I will look forward to more NW meets in the future, maybe a weekend one sooner or later. I may even sort one myself.

Sorry I couldn't spend more time getting to know the others, but I'm sure I'll see them again.

Thanks for the pictures, my balance after my tee shot is a lesson to any golfer. 9 stone on each foot, is the secret. Sadly, my "just for men" is growing out, but I'll be back to "sandy blonde" for the next meet.

No probs mate and well played yourself. 36 points in those conditions was awesome. I agree, we will have to sort out another NW meet before the end of the Summer.
