I used to play P&P a lot without a glove. Then started playing 'real golf', bought one and now find it absolutely necessary to wear on everything over 8 iron. Otherwise I find club likes to slip a little bit (might be the grip though)
I am getting a little sweaty so takin off after each shot, and don't use for pitch nor putt.

Glove for me, keep it on all the time even for chipping and putting.

And not that I want to affect anyone........ I hole way more putts with it on

Never worn one. I suppose it makes you look like a proper golfer:whistle:. Couldn't wear one anyway s I have Dupuytren's contracture on the left little pinkey. I know you say, cut the glove pinkey off.

QUESTION: Who was the first golfer to wear a glove?

Golf gloves have been around since the late 19th centuary. The first pros of note to wear a glove are believed to be Sam Snead photographed in 1937 wearing one, and Ralph Guldahl who won the US open in 1937 wearing a glove.

Used to wear one all the time over every shot. Then got into a tour pro wannabe stage and took it off between shots and left it off for short game and putting. Then for some reason it bothered and irritated me during one round so I stopped wearing it. Bit rough to start with as I had corded grips but now moved to soft tacky ones and I don't get as many callouses. Will put a glove on when its really hot and my hands start to get sweaty but still take it off between shots and sometimes forget to put it back on.

Glove wearer here, except for chips & putts. Off between shots and in the back pocket because I've seen it on telly ;)

Glove on at the 1st tee - glove off beyond the 18th green
Can't be bothered with taking it off, back on again, off, back on again........

Don't know why I wear one - I guess after all this time it just feels wierd without one.

Does it make a difference?

Probably not.

Same for me. I don't think putting gloveless makes a blind bit of difference. The only reason people do it is because the copy the pros they see on tv..

When I started playing tried wearing a glove but couldn't ever find one with a good fit... Have got fairly rough hands and once I discovered corded grips I've never had a problem playing gloveless...

Like the majority on here i too wear a glove for every shot except putts. Like some i remove it between shots also.
The reason? Well when the sun is out, i don't want to go round with one white hand, for the same reason really i rarely were a hat.
Being follically chalenged i'd look like a pint of bitter if i wore one for four hours in the sun. ;)

They must do it for a reason though...

I wear a glove, take it off for pitches, chipping & bunker shots all for reasons I have learnt on my own. Its a mental signal that its NOT a full shot.

Those who don't know why they wear it should try playing without a glove, those who never take it off for putting should try if they have not... BUT once you find something you like stick to it (unless there is a good reason to change), we need all the help we can get in this game!

I have always thought that a golf glove was an invention of The Kings New Clothes Company.
So many posters on here saying 'I don't know why I wear one'

For those who are pro gloves please explain, if they are so beneficial why do you only wear one?
