I really need to wear glasses when playing ( don't really want to though ! ) what are the best type to get ie verifocals / distance etc. ? My problem is seeing where my ball has gone not hitting it !
Any advice would be most welcome.

Hi,
I used to wear glasses but found them a pain in wet weather the rim getting in you eye line so i started using contact lenses they work out very cheap if you only need them for golf if you use the daily disposables.

Contacts work for me, I only use them for golf aswell and it does work out cheap.
My mates got annoyed with me constantly asking where my ball had gone and in matches really rubbed people up the wrong way especially when they were going down the middle.

One been wearing them for about 6 months and they took a little while to get used to but worth it. I think glasses would get in the way a bit more and like Mike said they are a pain when it's wet.

Denboy,
I hate contacts and cant have corrective eye surgery so I very recently acquired a pair of Dirty Dog glasses from extremeeyewear website, came back in 2 weeks and they are excellent - wrap style so you dont get your view obscured by rims etc- in terms of rain I have always just worn a long brimmed cap, that will do the job.
You may be limited if you have a strong prescription, mine is just -0.25 in each eye.
There is a thread from mid January in the lounge about it.

Thanks guys looked at the old threads and now I am really confused ...contacts - distance vision - rimless - big ones - varifocals etc. etc. ! there seems to be many different views. I think I need to get advice from an optician who plays golf !

I find that I putt so much better when I wear my glasses, but it is usually too rainy or too sunny to wear them. Contacts do a good job, but my eyes get sore by the end of the round.
That extreame eye wear web site sounds good, but my work have blocked it with "weapons" as the reason, so I will have to wait until I get home.

can't wear contacts, normally wear varifocals but these aren't great when playing golf - too many focus changes.

I tried distance lenses with an inset at reading prescription but that didn't work too well, the stronger prescription was at the bottom so it distorted the ball for putting or teeing up. (optician at Specsavers played golf)

now I just have distance lenses, tinted blue as this helps the ball to stand out against the grass. doesn't do a thing to help when it's in the trees or in the lake though! but I like the sound of birdie's wrap-arounds so maybe next time.

As a matter of interest I'm just wondering why some people can't wear contacts.

I didn't think I'd ever be able to stick something on my eye or poke around with my eyes but you do get used to it very quickly and then it's second nature.

Do the people who say they can't wear contacts just hate the thought of touching their eye balls or is there another reason??

I tried but my blink reflex is so strong that even with the optician holding the eyelids open I can still flip the contact off my finger before it gets a chance to go in.

I used to wear specs, then lenses, then got fed up with the lot and had surgery when I was twenty. Seven years on it's still perfect *touchwood*. Hurt like a whotsit after I had it done though.

Nope, I can get them in even though they keep folding over . However I will only wear them for skiing and to be honest the last time I skied I just wore prescription sunnies so didn't need the contacts. They just make my eyes too dry, ok for a while then they just start to annoy me. These are the so called extra moisture types. God only knows what would happen if I got some bunker sand in them! :(

I've got varifocals and wear them all the time. Changed from normal specs a couple of years ago but had no problem adjusting. Rain and sun are kept out by a reasonably long brimmed cap and the thought of something in my eyes makes them stream uncontrolably!

I struggle in bright conditions but my eyes are so bad (labrador per eye) that I doubt I'd ever get my prescription as a nice pair of wrap round sunnies. I guess its a baseball cap in rain and shine then
