I've had a couple of sessions down the local driving range now, hitting about 500 balls or so. Looking forward to organising a post work 9-holes with a few of the guys from the office. Then if all goes well look to joining a club.

Just wondering if anyone had some good tips or encouragement for someone about to hack his way around his first (half) round of golf.

Don't get upset about the bad shots which there will be a lot of for the first few times. I would also say see if you can get a lesson somewhere so you don't get too comfy with bad habits, and as said above enjoy it, it's just a stupid game ;)

And welcome to the forum ;) ;)

:D yes, definitely WHEN I hit a bad shot. More like IF I hit a good shot.

Just as a quick aside, looking around at clubs I've noticed there are a couple of 9-hole courses near where I live that are a lot cheaper membership than the 18 holers (obviously). Just wondered if anyone here is/has been a member of a 9 hole course and how they find it compared to a full 18. Do you feel you're missing out, or are they good places to start off because you get to go round twice?
