The saying above certainly is true.

Some of you may recall me complaining of no improvement in my game. I put this down to simply not playing and practising enough.

For the past fortnight I've been getting up to the course when possible. Reduced my backswing and uped the tempo on the downswing with a full turn following release.

What a difference the swing change and extra practise have made.
I always struggled with my ironplay, hitting both fat and thin shots, slicing, hooking, you name it.
I am now a reformed character. My shots comprise a more compact and powerful swing seeing my iron shots sending the ball further than I've ever experienced before.
OK, it's fair to say that not all my shots are "bang on" but overall I'm chuffed to bits with the improvement.
The daft thing about it all is that my improvement has not been down to the services of a Pro, simply by me looking at my game in some detail and making changes I thought were needed has upped my game.

I plan to stick with it and aim to continue improving right up to the winter and maybe see my pro to make any tweaks he feels are required to up my game further.

Does that sound like a plan? :D

I've always been pretty tasty around the greens with short chips and pitch shots. My putting was terrible. I did a bit of reading and research into it folowing it up with "live" practise on the course and seen a bit of improvement there too.
I know my putting can be better so an investment in a few putting lessons will be a must.

Was out earlier after work playing the course but concentrating on approach shots between 110 and 25 yards in. I just got this warm glow watching the ball fly high and land softly on the green. I've never used my pitchmark tool as much!!!!

Just seems I'm now actually starting to play real golf now and not hacking my way round.

Happy days!!! :) :)

Interesting post, and just wondering what your handicap is now and what do you go round in - before and after all the practice?

Unfortunately my handicap has gone up to 26 after a few comps this season from 25.
I have struggled with my golf and have yet to break 100 (nearest being 101 a month ago!)and put this down to lack of practise and technique.

Nothing doing in the way of competitions at my club now, will have to keep swinging and hopefully get some full rounds in on a weekend to monitor my progress over 18 holes.

I wouldn't mind betting that you'll be breaking 100 even before the winter sets in. I play off 26 too and so not really qualified to give tips :( but two that helped me with my iron play - 1. narrow the stance a little - 2. stand tall to the ball for a nice clean strike. I've found that sometimes the slightest change can make a difference.

For us high handicappers it's the consistency we lack. Can play all the shots..... but not consistently enough. AAAGGGHHH! :D

Just keep at it and it will come, dont be put off by the feeling of stagnation even if you play and practice a lot, this is normal, then an improvement comes along, some people can vrack it really quick, some take time. Keep at it though.
