I don`t get this Cantana cr*p, yes excellent club player but where was he on the world stage, 47 caps against Gazza`s 57, he could not even get in the French world cup winning team!!! What another fantastic role model, jumping into the crowd to attack a fan and there are many other incidents including throwing a ball at a ref, when somebody says something totally off tilt at work we call it a "Cantana" moment! That`s what we remember him for!
Don`t get me wrong I have no time for Gazza, but he was a special player and I do reconise Canatana won many league titles, and I think 2 doubles with Man U, but sorry mate if your statement is genuine it`s boll*xs!!

Di Canio and Larrson were 2 players that I would happily pay cash to watch,1 was a loose cannon and the other was a fantastic role model professional but both had sublime talent for the game........King Henrik got a wee bit more out of that talent.

Gazza??.....Sublime talent that because of the way he lived his life never ever reached the potential he had.

Did I also mention the fact he is a *** of a human being?:p

Had the pleasure of meeting Gazza on numerous occasions when he played with my brother at Burnley and he was the nicest, most generous fella - always made time for kids and supporters. I will never forget the fuss he made over my nephew when he was mascot - made him feel so special.

Also watched him a few times in training and, although he was way over the hill at that time (and his drinking was beginning to really spiral out of control), the ability he had with the ball was amazing and he was still so far ahead of anyone else in that team and division in terms of ability - but the legs and body just weren't up to it unfortunately.

So tragic what happened to him since then. In terms of the wife beating, I agree it cannot be condoned and is wrong - but I have it on good authority (from an ex-Spurs player who also played at Burnley) that his wife was a nasty piece of work - the exact words he used to me were "if I was married to her I would've probably done the same at some point as well".

Easily the most gifted English footballer of his generation - arguably the most gifted in the last 30 years. Given the level of awareness of mental illness and addictions in the sporting world now, if he'd had the level of support that is now available when he was in his prime, then I am sure he'd be up there with the all-time greats.
