Garmin golf watch question

Anyone got one? I just got the golf watch (the first version, not the brand new version 2).

It looks good in the box but getting it connected to the computer and downloading courses took forever. I've also received e mails from them welcoming me to Garmin Connect etc and all the links in the mails do is open another tab with the same e mail in - they don't actually take me to a webpage.
I'm not filled with confidence that this is going to work and the online reviews from owners dont make me feel any better.
Anyone got a good experience to cheer me up?

Do you know, it was a present for my 50th and you can tell I'm getting older as it's not a Garmin at all ! Its a Tom Tom Golf watch. Dunno what I was thinking.
