I've just ordered a Garmin G3 from Tesco Direct at a few pence short of £120.

I have a Skycaddie SG4 but the £30 subscription is due soon and I dont think my SG4 is being used for anything more than measuring front, middle and back of greens as it doesn't give a picture of the hole. Lets hope that the G3 proves to be worth it - at the price it certainly is good value.

Anyone who's got a G3 care to comment on my decision

seemed a decent unit when I looked at it, what put me off was that it takes normal batteries rather than just a lithium so you need rechargeable batteries and be organised to take them out and charge them each time. good luck with it, at the price cant go far wrong

I was planning to buy 4 rechargeables and always have 2 ready - my Skycaddie barely does 2 rounds without a charge

Plus on the positive side if HID sees tesco on the bank statement she won't ask no questions

I bought her a decent camera this week, so no questions will be asked!

The same scenario here Chris, replacing the SG4 with the G3. Fed up with the £30 subs to Skycaddie.

Used mine for the first time today and also took the Skycaddie to compare the yardages. The results were never more than a yard different so it certainly seems accurate enough.

I actually like the idea of widely available AA batteries since I once forgot my charger for the Skycaddie on a golfing weekend so was snookered.
The battery life seems very good. After todays round it still shows 3/4 battery life left using Duracell rechargeable batteries.

All in all the G3 seems a great purchase at the price.

Thanks for you message. Does the Garmin give a good map of the hole showing the hazards correctly?
