Garmin G3 changed to S1 watch comments ?

£129 at Direct golf, plus some free socks, and £10 voucher off next purchase.

big fan of this offer, I hope Father Christmas is (or the wife)!

for my t'penneth worth, I had a Skycaddie, but was forever leaving it at home, or forgetting the clip, or bracket, or whatever. I also hated having to pay the annual subs so got a laser (the Hillman one on the review section - great bit of kit). However, one of the lads I've just started playing with has a S1, and I'm really impressed, seems perfectly suitable for the regular courses I play and for weekly roll ups, and all the hassles I used to have.

Obviously I'll forget to charge it, but it can't be perfect can it :)

For me the swop back to the S1 will be better as i tend to play the same course

The G3 does show more detail but i found
1. screen is small and hard to see hazard details in relation to your position
2. I was only using the distance to green function
3. The added worry of understanding the G3 i found i forgot to look on some shots

S1 gives me..
1. smart looking watch GPS easier to see Front Back and middle of greens
2. Easier to check distances as its always with you in person
3. Has backlit display that puts the G3 to shame
4. Better Battery Life

I think this will allow me to concentrate on the shot better

Would of loved the S3 but way too costly and again alot of fiddling around to get the info.

Also glad i got the Black version, the White version wasnt for me

I quite fancy an S1

Sitting on the fence at the moment tho

Go for it moneybags!!!...lol

Was 'lost' without mine today at Slaley Hall.......i've realized its just become part of my golf game after forgetting to bring it today......however it didnt stop me shaving 8 shots off my previous score at the HUNTING...........in conditions I felt were the hardest ive played so far in golf.

I realised how handy it was when you were at sharpley.

Good game today then mate?

Saw the all singing G6 today and boy is that screen small. My SC5 has a lovely sized display and just a shame that after 6 years it is beginning to become more and more unreliable. GM did a good feature a couple of months back but its hard to find somewhere that has the main protaganists in stock to do a meaningful comparison. I think if you are playing the same track the G1 is ideal but as I tend to be playing second shots from areas not always mapped I like the ability to see distances to hazards to at least plot a sensible path back

Always wear a watch so the S1 is perfect except when wearing long sleeves in winter. They cover it up. Solution attach it to the motocaddy handle. It's a great piece of kit.

Thanks all, sounds like the jury is well and truly in.

Dear Santa, I know I haven't been very good.....

This thread has been very handy. My missus has been asking what to get me for my birthday and I had no clue. Now I'm going to get a garmin s1.

Now which colour....

Update......

I have returned the S1 for the S3 which has also dropped in price to £219

The difference is actually worth spending the extra for as follows...

1. Layup distances shown
2. Green view shown
3. Scorecard stroke or stableford
4. Choice of black or white letters / numbers
5. Ability to add up to 5 points of interest per hole i.e hazards etc
6. Touch screen and buttons

I was not sure at first but the S3 is well worth it if you can afford it as it has all the S1 has plus some useful additional features

I looked the G6 and its a tiny display so agree the S series is easier to read on the wrist for people without perfect vision

NNNOOOO!!!!!!!!!

:)

Thanks for the update Wolfman, sounds like good piece of kit all right. Yikes this is adding up!

I did consider the Bushnell as an alternative to the S1

Another good improvement is the S3 charger is better than the fiddly S1

The Par of the hole is shown in text on the S3 instead of dots on the S1, again easier to read

Still think they are way too expensive but £90 more than the S1 seemed the sensible choice to upgrade as i would always be thinking i should of gone for it.

I bought the Bushnell Neo+ two weeks ago as the pro said he stopped selling the Garmin S1 because there was interference from overhead powerlines with it and the Bushnell doesn't have any problems. It works a treat.
