What about our Sergio? is he the new nearly man? yet again he is beaten in a play off, do you think this will be having a negative effect on his mental state of mind? or do you think it is making him stronger and it will be only a matter of time before he wins a few?

I can't help thinking that he is going to miss out. Garcia is a good player, but he lacks bottle/luck/whatever that makes the difference. He has clearly won some events, and makes a very good living. If he could win a major, I think he would win more, but without that, he may never really fulfil his potential.

I am afraid I also dump Westwood, Bjorn, Casey, Rose etc into this category too.

I think Villegas, Romero and Fdz Castano are going to be the next generation to challenge Tiger and Padraig for the majors. I think the above names will miss out.

While I agree with alot said in the above post you cannot surely be serious about the journeyman Spaniard that is 91st on the W.O.M. list?!?!

Murph I agree with all except Rose, I think he'll come good.

Garcia lacks the bottle-all he had to do on sunday was knock a 4i on the green, Villegas hadn't put him under a great deal of pressure, yet pushes it miles right, very poor, and I think his putting is brutal under pressure.

Garcia has lost something from his game, its not skill its to do with the lively charactor, the excitement, the spark, the umph! he had as a younger brilliant player seems to be missing.Remember how he always had a beaming smile all the way across his face after most shots, its been replaced by a serious and almost funerial look on occasions lol.

I think that that is because life has kicked him in the proverbials.

Is that really true, he's a fantastic golfer, he's loaded, he's got a string of very fit birds on his arm and he got $2,756,000 on Sunday, $756,000 for 2nd in the tour champs and $2million for 3rd in the FedEx Cup. I'm sure that would help soften the blow of losing a playoff Sunday and the Ryder Cup the week before!!

But Aye, it's a hard life really!! ;)

But I am sure once you have the cash in the bank, enough to get by on, then it is titles that mean everything. I can't see why you would carry on touring, never being at home, living out of a suitcase if you had enough cash to stop. There has to be another reason.

I think he is just mentally tired. He has played well to get himself in contention in a lot of big events over the last 18 months and with the Ryder Cup on top of that I just think he is burnt out and not able to think correctly on the way around.

Hopefully he'll have a quiet close season and come back fresh next year and be in contention again. I quite like Sergio and would like him to win a major. Not sure I necessarily buy into the whole bottler thing. I think Harrington ground out his win last year and this year Garcia has just made one error at the wrong time which has cost him

I too like Garcia.

I don't think he's a bottler I just don't think he is confident with his putting stroke and it doesn't hold up under pressure.

I also agree with the comment about him on the course. He doesn't appear to be enjoying it like he used to. There doesn't appear to be the fire in his belly.

Yes he banked money and lots of it but any professional sportsmen are in it for the titles/winning. He wouldn't need to play again if he was in it just for the money.

His confidence has taken a battering this past 15 months with defeat snatched from the jaws of victory on a few occassions.
He needs to build this up.

His iron play is up there with the best.

He's still in his twenties so times on his side.

I hope he wins a major I think he needs to.

he's good enough to win one and the fact that he keeps getting himself in contention shows it. He just needs to have that little bit of luck at the right time.

I think he's going to go down as a great player - as has been said, he's not 30 yet. 40+ more majors to play in. He's got to win 3 or 4.

GARICA IS A GOOD PLAYER YET FOR SOME REASON HE AS COMPLETELY LOST HIS PUTTING PROWESS SURELY THIS MUST HAVE A DETREMENTAL EFFECT ON HIM. IMO I THINK HE WILL WIN A MAJOR IN 09 HOWEVER WHICH ONE IS ANYONES GUESS.

His putting has improved significantly this year, another winter of work, and confidence and I feel Sergio will break his major duck next year.

Let's put things into context, if Sergio was British, we would be waxing lyrically about what a great season he had, winning the Players and contending so many titles etc etc.

The golf media heaped praise on Rose for making the cut in all the majors last year (big wowee), and Poulter is suddenly major winning material because he holed a couple of decent putts at Birkdale (spare me).

Money isnt everything, I live in an area riddled with the very rich and the vast majority never seem happy and in fact look positively miserable. I think its about achievement, trophies on the shelf, Tangeable evidence that youve really made something.

Being nearly there is nice but soon forgotten.

I fancy him for a major in 2009,he seems to be a genuine contender at all but the Masters.Missed out in a play-off at the weekend but he was 4 over after just a few holes on the 1st day,the old Sergio would never have gotten back in to contention to win.
Did win the "unofficial 5th Major"....but then so did Adam Scott and whats happened to him?
