My PW is 44.5* (funny loft i know, cobra like it that way for some reason) and my SW is 56*, i hit my PW about 120 and my SW about 56*, would anyone recommend me getting a 50* Gap Wedge or something around that degree to fill in that gap?

i hit my PW about 120 and my SW about 56*

Is that a typo for the SW distance?

I have a PW at 46 degrees going 115yds and a SW at 54 degrees going 80 yards so went for a Nike SV Tour gap wedge at 50 degrees which I hit about 95-100.

44.5 is really a 9 iron isn't it? A true PW is 47/48 deg.

yeah sorry that is a typo i hit SW about 90 not 56*. thats the problem i have with my PW, it is basically a 9 iron, might have a look next time i play whether i find i need to play half or three quarter swings with my PW a lot and base it upon that, because i do have quite a distance gap between them.
thanks

I had the same problem d1217 in the fact I had a 52* gap wedge and a 54.5* FP SW, so my local pro change the 52 into a 50* and I have just ordered a 56* SW.

On our par 3 7th about 125 yards I have to take the FP wedge and choke down on it to stop over shooting the green, but in all fairness its a good PW/9I and the irons balance out where a 4i is 23* and 3i 20*.

yeah i think you've just answered my question really thanks Parmo, i can choke down on my PW. i dont really need to go and spend more money on more clubs, get used to what you have got.

totally, its the reason many don't take full swings with high lofted wedges, they would rather choke down on a PW or 9i and use higher lofts for closer shots that way my control in my experience.

Your Sand Wedge goes 56 degrees.....is that healthy!!!

If your SW goes 56 yards, you have my sympathy..... :D Have you not considered this is just a tad odd???

Thanks Birdie......I'm so relieved.......I though the poor chap was hitting 120 yd PW and 56 yd SW :)

In reference to your q?.....ahem, now I've sorted my life out.

YES! you should get a GW.

Nothing better than knowing a full shot is the best option.

You need/might benefit from a 105 yd wedge, start with a 52 and see what's going on.

My PW ave' at about 115-ish. My SW ave' about 80.
I use my 52 for around 95 yards. It has saved my bacon on many occasions, when I've had to "lay up" or forced into making a par 4 into a par 5 for my tortoise swing speed.....

What I don't like is 100 or 105.......

Or, you could learn how to hit your wedges different distances by varying the length of swing and where you hold the grip.
Dave, if youre having problems from 100-105, try holding your wedge at the bottom of the grip and swinging normally

I have tried the old "clock" malarkey and it makes no difference whatsoever. Once I've cocked my wrists the ball is destined to go the full distance.

I will however try holding my wedge at the bottom of the grip, maybe this is where I've been going wrong; expecting a result from choking down an inch might be too subtle for me, and I am keen to try something more drastic......

Thank you, I hadn't considered going to these lengths..... :)

I suspect you are going back to the 9'oclock position but swinging through to a full, high finish.
Try this
Take your 46 deg wedge, hold it at the bottom of the grip, swing back to 9 o'clock but STOP AT 3 O'CLOCK with a smooth swing and take a little divot.
I'll be surprised if it doesnt go roughly about 50 yards
Try it and let me know how you get on :)
