So I was doing some simple wedge shots at the range today. Just hitting comfortable length swings at various targets and what I noticed (there was no launch monitor involved) was that there didn't seem any difference in the distance between my 56 degree wedge and my 52.

This winter I have been making an effort to hit more wedge shots into targets whilst at the range as short game practice and I have been reading up on wedge setup/swing etc. But today was when I really saw that there seemed to be no distance difference between the two. There now seems to be a sizeable gap between my PW distance and my 56 (SW) distance.

What could be the reasons behind this?

What distance should it be?

Hit some shots with other clubs to the intended distance then try again.

Could be your going all out with other clubs and not this one. People tend to try and hit high lift clubs too hard.

Assuming full shots there should be a large gap between the two as the weakest your set PW will be is 46 (likely to be slightly stronger) so the gap is anywhere between 10-12 degrees

Thanks for the reply. Yes I understand that there will be a gap of 10-12 degrees between PW and SW, but with the 52 going the same distance as the 56/SW then it seems to me like that there is the big gap with the 52 being a pointless club to carry...

If your 52 is a little weak and yourb56 a little strong you may find there is little degree difference between the 2 clubs

are you hitting off mats or grass?

On grass you may Possibly be hitting a low bounce 52 a touch fat and killing the contact losing distance.

Just a guess.

The gaps in your irons are
5-6...........3 deg
6-7...........3 deg
7-8...........4 deg
8-9...........5 deg
9-W..........5 deg
W-GW.......7 deg
GW-SW.....4 deg

With your PW being 45 deg and your SW 56, I would suggest you swap your 52 for a 50.
But get the lofts checked first

Couldnt he just get it delofted 2* ?

as has been mentioned i would get the loft and lie checked, esp if they are forged clubs. I had the same problem a while back in that the PW on my 62's went the same distance as the 9 iron. and had become bent so they were more or less the same loft.

is there much difference in the ball flight?

Did you buy the wedges new or used cos the trouble with putting together a used set of wedges is that they may have been custom fitted for somebody.
Adjusted loft(loft not neccasary what it says on the sole),shaft length and thinkness of grip will affect distance,
You can get the standard specs on the net and then get them checked out against the specs you have.

Got to be something wrong with the lofts. My 50° goes much higher than my 46° & about 15 yards shorter. Unless the wedges are different models with different shafts. Would be useful to try then both on a GC2 & compare launch angles, ball speed etc.
