Well second qualifying score today returned and I have to say I played abysmally.
Last week I scored a magnificent 26 points :p in stableford, this morning despite a bit of good range practice in the week I shot a medal score of 86 less 4!
Things are so bad I'm topping the ball off the tee at times and at some stages was barely able to even swing an iron. Don't know what I'm doing wrong - it all feels weird.

Not sure what to do, I know it was a long winter lay off (6 months) but all the same I never remember being this bad. Need to slow down I expect.

There were a good few decent shots in there to take something positive away but an awful lot of not just poor but completely duffed shots which is unlike me. :(

Disappointed and confidence crashing!

Started with a nice drive up first too which usually settles me.

Anyone else struggling for early season form or even struggling to find their game at all? :D

Jeez BM, Id have thought any practice at all for a low man would have had you straight back into the swing of things.
I have shot two pretty good round last week and the week before, today was +9 after 13 holes then lost 2 balls in trees on the 16th. Ended up NS that hole and ruining a buffer zone card.
Strange one though as it was my adventures with the hozzle this past month that I was more worried about and the driving was grand, today it was poor and cost me 3 double bogeys. Playing clubchamps course on monday with a society outing and hope it improves, otherwise im bringing poor form to Spey etc. Not good!

Fella dont let it get to you, when a good golfer has one of those days it is almost always tempo (swinging to fast) which then starts you thinking and once that starts it all unwinds. Forget about it go to the range and start by playing punch shots I am sure it will all come back.

Pretty much constantly hitting a shank with any of my wedges, its so bad that i didnt play in our medal this morning, dont know what the problem is,but one thing is for sure i will not be picking a club up anytime soon in a competition.

Try practice swinging right handed only with a sand iron - makes you clear the hips correctly on the downswing. Poor hip rotation i.e. not clearing your body out of the way may well be the reason for your short iron shanks - it was for mine. I have had them in the past and always with wedges too - that is the only drill that I have found sorts things out. You need to be balanced correctly too - you should be able to lift heels and lift toes at address i.e weight on balls of the feet. I hit some good wedges today at least!

Me , I can beat your score BM. shot an 88 in the week and 25 points at Luton yesterday :p

Havnt got a clue which end of the club to hold atm :D

I feel your pain mate, I had 22 points today in our first qualifier! was gutted, played like a dog. Not one area to blame though, pretty much all of them! I have put it down to fatigue as was pulling down our old garden shed and doing some gardening stuff yesterday so felt drained this morning. Going to try and get some practice in and hope it improves!!

Am in the same boat ,after having a couple of lessons and working at the practise strip i was looking forward to this season but i've played
1 medal and 1 sweep and both have been shocking.
I will have 4 or 5 real card busters the a run of pars, am getting so frustrated with my game i was on the verge of giving up for a while but have to many games booked for that, plus i've started playing 9 holes at night with my son.

I can relate.Played this morning and hit it rank from the tee,my old fault had crept in which results in a poofy high fade and loss of distance. Now, I know the move to cure it but despite trying to pull the move off I failed terribly till the 17th and finally managed to get it right on 17 and 18 so hopefully tomorrow I can carry it on.

Don't want to have this hanging around, not with 4 games in 3 days next weekend looming!

Thankfully the rest of my game was fine and I managed to scramble 36pts despite 2 blobs.

It's not just me then!
Hopefully things will improve for us all soon! :D

Ouch! It takes a man to admit that they had a shocker.... which is why I'm posting :D

Let's just say I thought that level or under par was on the cards today because the weather was so nice...and I was wrong by about 15 shots

No point in going into detail as it's equally painful to think about it, writing it down definitely won't help :p :p

Note to self: Take your frikkin' rule book with you next time!!!

Deinitely not just you. Looking for a get cut in the first medal of the year after consistently shooting 4-6 under my handicap, knobbed it round in bang on my handicap. Great.

Then more ok rounds, 2-3 under my handicap. Second medal, 6 over my handicap. Treble bogied the 1st and the rest was just mediocre rubbish.

Thoroughly fed up.

I presscribe a stiff drink tonight for all suffering from this condition and try again tomorrow. :)

Net 81 (93-12) today including a nice 7 (+4) on the first. How to start a medal round the Homer Simpson way. I think my problems are suitably documented on here already suffice to say after I've kicked HTL's butt tomorrow I'm having a week off golf and not touching a club in any shape or form

DMC

I can see the problem here. The wedges are not a member of the Ping For Life Club. :D

Yeah well I spent 8 hours putting together a wardrobe from Ikea, a bed from Argos Direct and then shaving a door. All during what was (probably) the hottest day of the year so far.

I really feel for you that you didn't shoot great scores. Not. :D x

Playing clubchamps course on monday with a society outing and hope it improves,

Brendy the greens are a bit ropey (NOT TO BAD) but what can we expect this time of year. Lift clean and place through the green as well. Hopefully that will end for next weekend.
I shot 68 gross today 43 pts and will get nothing for it, not even a cut. There was 3 45 pts and a 67 gross so that puts me well out.

I might pop down and see you.

No probs Ian, Ill be there after lunch. Its my swansong as captain of the society too so looking forward to it.
Our greens are ok, quite fast but still have a little growing to do to get rid of the last blemishes left by sanding etc.

Where do you live? - it was about 9 degrees tops up here and really windy, couldn't get loose or warmed up at all whole game.

Your days sounds productive at least. :p

I've got your home number Martin.
I'll phone you one evening, really early. You know, when the driving range is likely to still be open.....

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
