Best tip: Give up golf. Happy is the man...
But seriously, what are the strangest tips you've heard?

The Dorf on golf videos are quite a resource.

Keep your nose still until after contact.

Imagine you are swinging the club with a towel under your arms.

Hack all the sand out of the bunker, then chip out.

Aim for the clouds.

Add yards to your drive by playing off the ladies' tees.

When putting don't look up until you hear the ball drop into the hole.
Shame about that one. You never see the ball disappear.

That last one is a bit of a devil - if you miss, you'll be staring at your feet till nightfall :)

Not sure what's funny about a drill that Hogan & Faldo recommend; what am I missing OP?

Cut 4 inches off your driver.

Will that make it easier to contol??

No, but it will fit in the dustbin more easily!
Now that's better. :D

My dad always got told a classic one - "Your problem is you're standing too near the ball... after you've hit it."

You stand too close to the ball after you have hit it.

As in post #11. And not really a tip.

The point is this. With all these tips and special golfing aids and lessons in the form of books, videos, and personal tuition we should all be playing good golf. But we are exposed to contradictory information. Tell me one universal tip we can all use. I know you can't. From Hogan's 8 swing thoughts to mine, which is just try and connect square with the ball with force enough to get it up in the air straight, or with a desired shape. Isn't that all we ever need to know? There are no magic moves or secrets. We have the natural ability or we don't.

One thing I have over those guys is that I always watch the ball drop. I look at the hole while putting. I find it adds quite a lot to the pleasure of the game.

I'm very happy for you, but what's that got to do with the towel drill?

There isn't one because we all swing differently; how can you possibly expect one tip to cover swings as diverse as Jim Furyk & Lee Trevino?
