Rain stopped play but a pal and I headed to the range. After warming up we had a competition where we took it in turns to set the challenge and club, 3 balls each. Recalling the Luke Donald video with him using almost every club in his bag on a Par 3 we mixed up full shots with the right club to "manufactured" shots with the wrong one.

It was such great fun and for me took away all the angst the range has held of late as I've tried to get my swing back on track.

Something I'll do again for sure and well worth having a go (assuming you have a pal)

Love it, I am looking forward to my brother in law coming back from Australia after popping there on holiday 5 years ago. This is the sort of thing we do, great fun and good for you.....

When me and my pal go to the range together we always have little competitions hitting at specific targets. No swing thoughts but I always seem to strike the ball much better. Go figure

Love this sort of practice - much better than endlessly lashing balls into the distance. Using different clubs for the same shot teaches clubhead contol and feel.

I often like to have a little target compeition.. against the voices in my head

Away from the range, it's great to have chipping/putting comps on the club practice green. Recreates a bit of tension that produces far more realistic and productive practice I reckon. I spent hours doing these as a junior.

I tend to give myself targets when I'm doing short game work. Maybe put a towel down as a landing point and aim to get 50% dead on. Chuck 10 balls down around the green and see how many up and downs you can make. Use every iron in the bag and play the shot to the same hole etc
