Full bag fitting

I wouldn’t go to my club pro for a fitting, I had my irons fitted at Royal Birkdale which is a performance centre for Mizuno . It was a great fitting tried all top brands , narrowed it down to 3 then went outside on the grass driving range with a portable Trackman . Ended up with Mizuno’s. For driver I went to Scottsdale in Manchester, ended up with a Ping 440 in Stiff , I’ve never been in stiff but it’s been brilliant. I had one fitting with my club pro and it was very disappointing

My home is close to you OP, so depends are you fixed on a manufacturer?

Titleist, search fitting, House of Golf at Manchester golf club and select a day when Tom Maddocks is there.

Wider choice of clubs, then Scottsdale Warrington would be my choice.

Best fitters by far and Full choice of clubs and shafts, SGGT Chesterfield.

I went in dribs and drabs - irons, wedges, putter, driver and fairways etc, but if I had my time over again, SGGT, but split the sessions up into at least irons/wedges, and driver/fairway/hybrid just because you get tired.

I’ve watched plenty of videos of SGGT and they are fantastic. I think my next set of irons I will be travelling from south Manchester to Chesterfield to SGGT .

Used Scottsdale before at Warrington, got fitted for a 7 wood, great club but extortionate price for the shaft, but I guess thats what you pay for.

I'm not sure I want to replace ALL my clubs, just want to go through my bag with a fitter, and change anything they recommend, just dont want to get forced into buying anything that wont benefit me, and I dont have unlimited funds.

So, have I got this right? its £150 a for 1hr 30 mins iron fitting only session at SGGT, driver £100, fairway woods £75, hybrid £75, wedges £100 so £500 before you even start? If you purchase clubs that is deducted, they also accept trade in on your clubs.

House of Golf in Manchester is only £99 for 3 hours for custom fit full bag, seems quite a big difference in price, what am I missing here?

Depends on what the service quality is like and their fitting model. SGGT are renowned as one of the best in country at what they do so they charge a premium for their service. Much like any other industry supply and demand, they have created the demand so they charge accordingly.

Clubhouse golf have a fitting centre in Warrington now. Similar to the Scottsdale one but it’s not same day build (unless they have what you need in stock?)

The prices are far more reasonable than Scottsdale and they deduct the fitting off the purchase

SGGT fees deducted if items purchased. Or has been every time ive been there.

Just to add....IMO, to do a full bag fit in one session wouldn't be wise, you'd be knackered

I got a driver fitted by SGGT last year, great experience and I am very happy with the club.
Only thing I would say is that all of their shafts include an up charge as they are not standard to the heads.

Surely the fitting centre wins? Just because someone is a PGA Pro it doesn't necessarily mean they're a great fitter. Whereas the fitting centre, you'd expect them to know what they're doing.
I would say 99.9% of o Pga pros would give you decent fit. Fitting centre advantage is option to go outside scope of any given manufacturer. It's not always have to be up charge shaft

Yes, you have the costs right.

And you do get it deducted from any order, or take the stats elsewhere and buy clubs. Fitting and purchase should not be linked, but they always are, wherever you go.

A good fitter can save you a lot of money, by buying the wrong clubs.

As for House of Golf. My recommendation was for Tom Maddocks from Titleist, not the place itself.

All in all, I’d say SGGT is the best independent fitting experience we have here and for quality fitters, equipment and unbiased assessment, it’s great value.

To be fair Ken, it’s not an up charge. Heads are priced separately to shaft and grip. The price you pay is the total of the components chosen.

So, my brand new TM Qi4D Core driver head at £395 is a lot less than the off the shelf complete driver. Then shaft, grip and puring made up the total.

One thing to note, is all quoted prices are plus vat.

I guarantee that after an hour, maybe 90 mins if you are lucky, you will be knackered and half the fitting wont be worth a damn.

So call it £99 for 90 "useful" minutes at best....and you wont get a full bag fitted in 90 minutes....not properly at any rate.

Better to go with local pro at the golf course or specialised fitting centres like Scottsdale?
I've known my club pro for 30 years and he knows my swing/game pretty well. I've had a social 18 with him already this year.
He did a basic fitting, lie angle and appropriate shafts, when I bought a set of Ping i10 irons in 2008. Did not feel I needed "more" than this at the time.
Basically - I trust him.
First played with his dad 50 years ago!

But last October I went for a full fitting at Ping Thunock Lincolnshire. (Not wedges or putter)
Of course it is Ping clubs only.
I went for the recommended driver bought through my club pro.
I was lucky to find the exact spec recommended irons at GCFC. Looks like they have been used for one summer only. Chuffed with the £-saving.

I was recommended G440 4-wood 17°, 7-wood 21° and 23° hybrid, but I had other ideas.
I bought K15 3-wood 16° £20 and instead of the 7-wood a Cobra Baffler Hybrid 18° for under £25.
Instead of the recommended 23° hybrid, my set of irons included a 19° 4-iron.

I was recommended stiff shafts for woods and hybrids and I'd had only regular for years. I was recommended regular graphite shafts for the irons - only ever had steel shaft irons.

All in all - very useful info even if I had not decided to buy anything. Bashed loads of different clubs for an hour and a half - all for £40 charge.
I have to say that the fitting did influence my second-hand purchases of fairway and hybrid - the stiff shafts. I would not have bought these without having done the fitting.

Very pleased with my new(ish) set up for 2026.
