Had my 3rd lesson yesterday, and my first since having my knee operated on for a clean up. I've been working on changing my ball flight from left to right to right to left, and get more consistency. First couple of lessons were like HUGE leaps forward, and the change in the videos were quite dramatic.

I was feeling good before yesterdays lesson, hitting a ball better flight-wise but getting some serious loss of distance. When we went through it during the lesson it all started to make sense, however it just felt rotten, I felt like my irons were made of spaghetti!! I then got to look at the flightscope data and bugger me, the dispersion was better by 10 yards across all the shots hit! This game is driving me mad!!!!!!

Anyone else having this 2 steps forward one step back? If I had any technical ability I'd load up the first and the 3rd videos, because I think it actually looks like a golf swing now, but I just can't wait to have it feel like a golfswing!

Anyway, rant over, just needed a brain dump. Updates to come....

Keep at it, the improved results will help you persevere and before long it'll feel a lot better. Also, you probably find that as you get used to it and relax more you'll get some more speed through the ball and get some more distance.

Keep checking your dispersion, tight grouping of shots shows you're in control of the ball and gives you confidence.

Been there done it got the t shirt. The only thing i would say is try and practice in between lessons, don't rely on the lessons alone. Sadly the lessons wont make you a better player, practicing down the range what you have been taught will.

Sometimes you have to take a step back to go forwards

Wouldn't worry about the loss of distance too much, just club up!

The more you do it the more distance you will get, if the dispersion stays the same that is ideal!

stick with it guy`s - patience and hard work will have it`s rewards - also trust- u have to trust ur pro and prove to the pro that ur prepared to put in the effort - if he`s givin u `drills` then stick with them ..all the best guy`s

Cheers guys. I'm getting down the range 2-3 times a week now, so I'm putting the time in now. I guess I just want results now.

Hopefully a day off today and back to the range tomorrow will show some progress.

Bloody game!!!

Thought I was making progress and had been hitting the ball well at the range while the course has been on temp greens (hate playing on them) but came out this weekend and discovered that it isn't as ingrained as I thought. Good in places but too patchy and the bad ones were awful

Why change ball flight from left to right, to right to left ? Doesn't seem to harm Martin Kaymer. Wouldn't it be easier to play with what comes naturally ?

Only guessing here for this instance.

Sometimes changing a players shot shape, trajectory helps to improve the swing quicker than swing drills and thinking about certain movements. For instance, if the player hits a flat hook or hits the ball heavy/thin, getting the player to practice low fades improves the swing path and angle of descent through the ball. After a while the shot shape can be changed when the player is comfortable with the swing.

Fair point, it's certainly working for him! I'm just looking for more options, and also get some extra distance. My bad shot is a rough as hell slice, and when I struggle its distractive. The pro I'm with thinks its going to give more consistency, which I'm all for. I've certainly learnt a few things about my swing, and now know whats causing the issues. If I can get my swing flatter, it's going to me more neutral flight with less cut, so should see more fairways being hit. Hopefully!!!

I was just about to say that, after watching Kaymer today.

Obviously if you're slicing it it's not fun but there's nothing wrong with a slight fade.

I've been enjoying myself a lot more since I've stopped seeing my fade as a mini-slice.

Love the mentality!

I know I can always go back to the out to in swing if I need to, and I think a draw is a better looking shot. It will hopefully stop me 'slapping' the ball and losing distance.

Take this home with you, you still got something out of the lesson. Always take the good stuff home and get as fast as you can at leaving the bad stuff behind.

Dont let the game drive you nuts, enjoy the jurney to a lower handicap or it will twist you up.

We all know about frustration. I've been playing for 21 year, and on Thursday I thought I had found the secret again!!!
Been down to the range again to night, and only hit 5 good shots.
AARRGGHH

Next chapter!!

Went down the range at lunch and got a small basket to try out the drills from the lesson. Whilst distance wasn't constant, the ball flight was straight or right to left, and it didn't feel like I had someone else's arms on! The pro came to watch a few hits and said it looked better and less forced, so guess it's a step forward today.

Bloody game, was far easier when I just bought different clubs cos it was the old one's fault!
