Had a friendly knock up this morning.

Struggle from the 1st onwards. Pretty much a follow up from a previous round where I couldn't seem to hit the ball. A few good drives although most were sliced.

My partner who usually says nothing suggested I may be too tense at set up and overswinging. What a revelation!

Kept a firm lower body at address, loosened off my upper body. Steady back swing........bingo, the ball flew much straighter and longer. :)

Plan is to build on this, keep loose, swing easily and try not to beat the cover off the ball. Hopefully an improvement will seen. I intend to practice what I was shown and see what happens.

Seems to me that tension in the upper body at address does very little for your game.......correct? :D

Bingo matey, I did the same on Saturday and my drives all went straight with good distance, maybe not just as far as usual though I wasn't struggling for distance, pity my putting head was sat in the clubhouse ignoring me (having a few drinks the night before in the space of an hour might have had something to do with it), three putting the majority of holes.
Sat here with what feels like a dislocated shoulder and stiff neck now, lesson learned to not fall asleep on the sofa with about 4 pillows under my head.
Anyway, I agree 70% on the driver can make such a difference when you arnt on your game with the driver.

Couldn't be more correct if you tried my friend.

Tense muscles kill a golf swing dead no matter how good your game is. Keep it relaxed and you'll play much better

I agree. My partner was on fire so there was no pressure on me today so I just stood and swung. Much better although still not as good as I want. Freedom of tension and clarity of mind is the order of the day
