Off to Portugal in a couple of weeks, group of 16.

2 teams of 8, Ryder Cup style comp over 3 rounds.

Handicaps range from mid single figures to 28.

I've been allocated the role of tournament director, so need to come up with a format for the weekend.

Normally rank handicaps low to high and allocate alternately to teams A and B to try to ensure even (ish) handocaps on each team.

In previous years we have played Greensomes on day1, 4BBB on day 2 and singles on day 3.

This format has worked well, and may not need changing, however I'm wondering if there are any other formats that may work just as well or better.

Over to you

Thanks in advance

Multiply the stableford scores together. So let's say you're at Woburn and someone chips in at the second to score 4 for 4 (:)), but their partner blobs, it's 4x0=0. But if they were partnered with Smiffy and his 3 for 5 eagle, it would be 4x5=20 for the hole.

Ok, that makes sense, thanks Ben.

So hypothetically, lets say you're still at Woburn, and someone has 5 or 6 blobs in a row, then no matter what their partner scores their team score would be 0 for those holes?:o

Yes, that's how it would work. Their partner would probably get them back on the afternoon course though.

Thanks for the clarification

But only if their partner had an unfortunate attack of the unmentionables for nine holes, which miraculously disappeared at the turn :whoo:

Played in a stableford multiplier format 3 weeks ago, lots of fun, 2 blobs but a couple of 12 pointers to compensate

Unlike a pairs comp with one score to count & players ideally dovetailing by playing well on diff holes its far more important to have the same good holes (& same bad ones if there is any)

6,6,6 follows a similar format, for the 1st 6 holes its standard 4bbb, the next 6 holes the stable ford scores are added together, then the last 6 are Russian stableford.

We play one or two 'Yellow Ball' comps a year. Basically its a 3 man team and you are given a yellow ball at the start. The yellow ball is rotated through each player for each hole. So player one uses the yellow ball on 1,4,7,10,13 and 16. Scoring is best two Stableford scores on the hole with the user of the yellow ball's scores counting for double points.

If you lose the yellow ball it can't be replaced and you all just play for normal points. Quite good how much pressure you feel not to lose the ball.
