As a 9 handicapper ( just ), I am interested to know how long would you expect a forged set of irons last from new before needing to be changed for a new set?

I would be playing in a comp every saturday even thru the winter months, so playing 3 times a week in the comp season and twice a week in the winter off season.

Also clubs would be cleaned after each round with headcovers used when playing but removed when not playing.

My Rac TP combo's are 8 years old (not used for the last 3)and look like new save for the stone chip in my 7 iron.I used to play 3 times a week, and cleaned them regularly, and had the lofts and lie checked twice yearly.
I personally couldn't be arsed with headcovers, clatter marks are standard fair with forged irons, and it doesn't effect performance.
A word of warning......range mats and balls are not good for forged clubs, wet gritty balls and mats are like grinding paste, and will erode the sole and face.

You are right, it is cosmetic but I prefer the mirror finish on the backs and hosels, not the samurai hammered look.

That sounds like my irons :( So much so that I am considering getting a new set AND a set of covers although if I get the pings.......

Ask the bloke who now owns my TP 11s from 1992 (?)

Great value for money guys :)

I take it that all these forged irons stated in this thread are being used a minimum of 3 x 18 hole rounds a week in the summer months and a minimum of 2 x 18 hole rounds every week in the winter months every year and still going strong ;)

Mine used to get hammered- 7 rounds a week in the summer! Now it's more like a couple of rounds a week. I've looked after them, but don't use headcovers or anything like that. I think the lofts may be slightly out if i'm honest but i know them inside out.

Sadly they're finally getting replaced in the next 12 months. There's no reason forged irons won't last if you look after them.

I bought 2nd hand clubs, titleist 775cb irons, they are forged and very good condition, not sure how old they are tbh but would guess around 5 years and no doubt will last me another 5. Just got headcovers for them as my bag only has a 6 way divider and they do bump around a bit on the trolley so it was more to cut down the noise than worry about bag clatter.

I think that if you bought GENUINE clubs rather than FORGED that they would be better quality and would last longer.................................................................................................................................... ..... I'll get my coat

Fragger :D
