So what does forged exactly mean?
Forging is shaping metal by using compression not casting - you can get forged irons that are not blades - MX25 for example

Forging uses a softer metal, which is then bashed into shape, casting uses a harder metal, which is melted, and poured into a mould.

In theory, people say forged gives a better feel. This is not true at all. Any bit of metal will squash a golf ball, and the feel will be the same. The difference is actually in the sound at impact, which is interpretted as feel.

In practice, casting is a cheaper process than forging, and can achieve more interesting head shapes, and hence is more used for game improving irons to generate a higher moment of inertia.

Blades tend to have less offset, and have a clean back profile, and a thin top line. They have a higher center of gravity, which promotes a lower penetrating flight, and makes it easier to shape the ball.

Cavity backs have a cavity in the back (wow). They use this cavity to move more weight to the edges, to generate a more stable club head, and to position the centre of gravity lower down, to give a higher flight. They also tend to have more offset, making them more forgiving.

Forged players irons tend to be a/ forged and b/ less offset, and c/ shallow cavity, to give an element of forgiveness.

forged is a maufacturing process, clubs are either forged or cast. cast is made from a mould and forged is when the metal is hammered in to shape. Blades or cavity backed clubs can be made by either process.

have you checked out poulters new web site, you have to look at this

That was an awesome video. A real insight. I play with TM 300 forged and I gotta say they are fantastic compared to the Dunlops I started playing with. Then again, I guess most things would be.

Why o why do we get two bit, clueless numpty's come on here and sabotage a reasonable and interesting thread by peddling an inappropriate website clearly for personal gain. If we wanted to discuss the merits of Poulters gear we would open a thread. To be fair Poulter got a lot of forum time pre (mostly negative) and post (mostly positive) Ryder Cup and he does crop up on here frequently as a discussion point.

Now either join in with the threads without using subliminal web addresses to advertise or go through the normal channels and pay via GM to advertise.

The Mizuno clip is awesome, however take a look at the Vega or the Miura website to get a feel for what Forging is all about.

I am sad but every time I visit them I feel funny in my tummy!
