You'll love it!

I was there last weekend and the courses are brilliant.
The greens are quick & true.
The fairways are perfect, the ball sits up & invites you to hit it.
The fairways look tight but if you miss the fairway you should find your ball (but may have to hack out sideways).

The course isn't long (especially the par 5's) but there are quite a lot of tricky doglegged par 4's the main difficulty on which was positioning your drive.

I managed 2 rounds of 79 (including 3 birdies per round).

One warning though, if you stay and have breakfast: both the teas & coffee are incredibly weak (one bag per pot of tea) so ask for it with extra tea bags).

With my driving the way it is at the moment, I'm really glad you didn't mention how tight the fairways are
;)

I am looking forward to it, something nice at the end of a rubbish week in China. Good to here the course is nice, though not keen on too many doglegs, you can get a bit doglegged out after a while.

A short course should suit Smiffy. Especially one with a windmill on the green.

Can't comment on the coffee or tea, but the course certainly isn't short - 6444 off the yellows, it is tight, very tight in places and there's plenty of places in the trees to completely lose your ball. I've lost plenty over the years there to prove it!

It is definitely one for the better course managers amongst you. There are some very sneaky little burns that cross the course that aren't always apparent from the tees - a strokesaver would be a wise investment!

There aren't too many doglegs, but there's enough.

The course's main shortcoming IMO, and by the the sounds of some posts Smiffy may like this, is that there aren't enough long par 3s (off the yellows).
The biggest iron I hit into a par 3 was a 6 (on the 7th on the Pines course) and that had wind against.

It's not short I agree, but it certainly doesn't play too long. All of the par 5's are easily reachable, most with irons, the par 3's are quite short and if you hit over dog legs most par 4's are easily shortened.

I agree with the need for a strokesaver (cost < £5) and a GPS thingy is useful. Also I didn't lose any balls and my 2 playing partners only lost 3 between them. You had to be very wild to have no chance of finding them.

Also: if anyone likes Bridgestone balls they were all on sale for under £15 per dozen last weekend.

What narrow fairways?

And as memory serves, isn't the 16th about 200 yds over water? :D

Can't say that aerial photo does much for me. Looks like a golf course packed into way too smaller space, with all the holes parallel to each other.

We all agreed this weekend that it isn't actually as bad as it looks.
Yes there are plenty of trees, but they were generally quite thinned out at the bottom and the rough isn't too deep so you can find balls.
Shaping drives is quite important to get the ball around the course however.

In terms of ponds there are 3 holes with water.
The par 3 6th on the Forest was an easy 8 iron to the middle.
The par 3 7th on the Pines was 6 iron.
The par 5 6th on the Pines was a 3 wood just short and 6 iron to the green.

Admittedly there wasn't too much wind but what there was was against on the 7th and we all easily made it over.

Perhaps you were thinking of playing from white tees Bob?

Murph, you don't get the feeling of being packed in to a tight space. In fact despite being very busy we didn't see much of other groups on other holes/courses.

Well you've been reading my posts wrong Gil!!
I hate short par 3's. Much prefer the longer ones where you can have a bash with a 5 or 3 wood.
Short par 3's are my nemesis.
Oh well, I'll just have to make sure I'm a couple of holes up before I get to one

Smiffy... your Golf Magic boys need to bring their A games........the GM team is well pumped up and raring to go!!!
Rare steak diet this week for our team....... :D :D

That's the great thing about this game, your 'A' game can come just as quick as it goes.....mine came back today, I'm not worried about next weekend, no, no, no....More worried about keeping it for this weekend, I will worry about next week next Friday :p

Looking forward to meeting you guys, faces to names and all that, pitty our Cap-A-Tain only likes short Par3's ;)
