playing with a fade or worse of the tee but learned to line up to target to compensate for this

asked the pro coach for a lesson he changed my grip , stance on set up & told me to do a 3 quoter take back at first felt weired but then something clicked into place & he was the best coach in the world everything was going like a bullet straight to target after 2 visits to golf range & 5 rounds of golf
then i had another lesson & guess what ,,,yes thats right i cant hit a shot to save my life after that lesson

with out going into to much detail i don't thing I'm giving myself enough time to get used to the changes before i have the next lesson ,,,I'm dropping my head & taking to much divet

I'm 39 ,,,i was going to have one lesson a week but i thing i will start to have one golf lesson a month

want to be the best in golf club I'm stupid i always aim to high

A problem shared is a problem halved :)

Nothing wrong with wanting to be good at this game, and we've all had the frustration of seeing our games go down the toilet for a while... just ask Murphthemog!

I had a first ever lesson last week, same kinda changes, and couldn't hit a football if that was teed up! A couple of range practices later I could hit the ball but pulling left, so hopefully today's lesson will sort that out.
Stick with it and don't get disheartend! I'm aiming for a lesson a week up to march. Once the new set up and swing settles down then I can focus on other things with the pro.
I'm 33 nearly, I want to be one of the best at my club and get my handicap from a steady 18 down to single figures and beat the bandits who only win because they have to many shots to play with.
9 weeks to improve!!!!!!

How often you have lessons is dictated by the amount of time you get to practice and by practice I mean range practice not course. Bedding in changes takes thousands of balls so if you have a lot of time on your hands and have time to dedicate to practice one lesson a week might work but once a month is more realistic in my opinion.

You need to remember that it takes time, you can't force yourself to be better and yo will most likely get worse before you get better. You also have to really understand what you are being told, understand what to look for and pick out the positives no matter how small from every session.

Most importantly - be patient

I am in the same boat but the guys on the forum have reassurred me to keep with the changes, and hit the range, rather than the course. So I have cancelled my round this morning and will be hitting the range instead. Its just frustrating that everything works so well on a lesson, ten minutes later its gone awol. I am having one lesson a fortnight.

A lesson a week until march seems like an awful lot.

Totally agree Chris.

I leave mine fo a minimum of 3 weeks as I like to practice the drills I've been given. It takes, allegedly, something like hitting 1000 balls (obviuosl varies person to person) for the new feeling to become natural.

Do you hit 1000 balls a week?

As someone regularly accused on here of having way too many lessons, one a week is way too many and doesn't give you anytime to bed any changes in. I would have thought once a month and plenty of range time between times would be plenty. Use the range to feel the changes and get use to them and just go on the course and play without carrying too many swing thoughts with you. Again, another fault I have experience of

what is the pro going to teach you if you see him every week for 12 weeks or so? surely, if its a new procedure each time, you will be so confused you will find it difficult to hit anything. if its just to re-emphasise what he taught you the previous week, its a waste of cash and you could be out on the range practising.
did you propose the weekly lesson or was it your pro?

If your Pro \ Coach is willing to rob you for a lesson a week I wouldnt be thinking much of him. He must see he is flooding your head with info and your not getting anywhere?

As stated by others 1 a week is way too much. I doubt a Tour Pro would have a lesson every week.

A couple of thoughts.

When I have had lessons in the past I never improved until I had 'grooved in' the lesson learning . My normal method of doing this was to hit the range or the course and work through the changes - initially very uncomfortable but then the benefit can be seen. If I did not do this between lessons It all fell apart.

I now realise that in some cases the Pro I was using was making small changes to see an improvement not completely restarting from the basics - this was a good way of doing it - when I did have a major change (grip / stance, swing plane etc) it took me several weeks to get back on track but once it was there it really helped me.

Last year I was bought a set of lessons for my birthday so I had a few more 'specific' lessons on chipping, bunker shots etc and this really helped - these were one a week for 3 weeks but the other 3 I did at intervals of approx 3 weeks on general issues - again really helped but not on any specific shot or anything just alignment, swing, follow through so it took a bit longer to 'adjust' my game as it is more ingrained in your own swing.

So everyone learns differently and whether its a week or a month it depends on what you want out of it and how much practice you do between to make the change stick in my opinion.

As someone who is in a similar situation my advice would be to leave at least 2 weeks between lessons if not 3. After my first lesson I hit 1500 range balls before my next lesson which really help to bed the changes in before the next lesson. I've since hit 500 balls after my second lesson and the new changes are taking a bit longer to feel natural. Even now my old bad swing re-surfaces occasionally if I'm not concentrating properly so i know I still have a way to go yet. If you really feel the need to see your pro more regularly to make sure you are still doing the right things why not ask if you can have 15 minute check ups once a week just to re-inforce the drills you are doing and give you the confidence to continue working knowing you are doing the right things?
