Some time ago I finally settled on Footjoy Weathersof as my glove of choice. The fit is good for my hand, they last well, and aren't too expensive.

A few rounds ago I broke out a new one, and it seems to be deteriorating quite quickly. Previously the glove would last for ages and eventually wear through the padded section on the heel(?), but with this new one the top layer has started coming off around the fingers, and after only a few rounds.

The difference between them is that the new one has a press-stud ball marker included and was made in Taiwan. The old one was made in Vietnam and does not have the ball marker.

I wonder if Footjoy has found a cheaper (and inferior) factory to get them made.

Can anyone recommend another decent quality glove that costs about £10 and lasts well?

Srixon cabretta gloves can be picked up for a good price, I've just ordered 3 from clubhouse golf for £25 inc p&p

They last very well for a leather glove

Yes the vietnamese could throw a glove together

new ones with the ball marker are very bad gave one to the father in law to throw a spanner in his work, worked not beat me this year

To be honest I'd say Sciflex are a good choice in that price bracket. I always found they lasted well and were comfy and felt good. Just a bit of care needed to dry them if they got damp. On really wet day I use footjoy Raingrips so wasn't like they got drenched.

Recently switched to a Wilson advantage cabretta glove I picked up for £7. Had about 6 rounds without any signs of wear. Was so impressed by the fit and comfort I tried to order more but could find that specific glove. Seem to have been superseded by the Wilson Staff Conform range so I've stocked up with 6 of them costing £8.33 each. The large mesh panel on the top of the knuckles and outer fingers really helps breathability and fit.

Big fan of the Sciflex myself but I'd be concerned now that FJ have moved all their glove manufacturing to the same place and wonder if the quality across the range will be inferior. Of course the OP could just have got unlucky and a dud one

I will pretty much use anything so long as its leather, have a Weathersof I use on the range that I found at Leatherhead and its lasted ages but at the moment have CabrettaSofs or the cheap Srixon offering mentioned earlier in the bag. Both of them should be under a tenner or buy 3 for 25ish type deals.

I've tried a few of the FJ offerings but found them all to wear quickly and also stretch a lot and lose the fit after 1 or 2 rounds. The Cabrettasof I bought a few months ago fit very well out the pack, but after 50 balls on the range it was so loose I just got rid of it. Was terrible.

The best glove I've had, and the one I will continue to buy, is the Nike Tour Classic II. Still has the same fit as the day I got it and shows no signs of wear except dirt. I've played it for about 15 rounds so far.

Another vote for the Sciflex here, they last for months, generally. I did have one earlier this year that wore a hole in the thumb after about two weeks, but since changing from a "long thumb" grip to "short thumb" grip, the current one is more than two months old and still going, with a little wear on the thumb, but no hole yet - I usually play 4 times a week, and also played 10 rounds in 10 days with this one, so it's doing well.
