I had the misfortune to travel 5 stops on the tube today with about a dozen Arsenal fans in the car.

OK they were all hyped because they were on their way to the final at Wembley, but when they started singing certain songs I have to say my dander was well and truly up!

With absolutely no regard for whoever was in the car, which by the way included at least 3 women on their own, 2 children with parents and a hand full of other adults. These idiots sang their lungs out about some incidents in the paper with obviously a well known (to them) tune, including the c*** word, the f*** word and a handfull of bloodies thrown if for good effect! What made this even worse for me, and call me old fashioned if you like, but they had a young lad with them and at least 3 women who actually lead the singing of a chorus! They obviously they knew the words and tune from numerous airings.

So my point is this, are all football fans this oblivious to anybody everybody else or is it limited to a handfull?

In short yes. Most fans become tribal once they don their colours and sadly become oblivious to surroundings and sensitivty. It is the same at most levels of the game (at least in the PL down to the Football League) and most clubs will have certain songs about rival clubs/players that will get aired. Given that the pubs will have been open then you can imagine alcohol will be in the mix too. Sadly it is another blight on society but ask them to stop poses more risk than suffering the indignity of the abuse

David Beckham mentioned something similar in his autobiography. He said that on one of his visits to West Ham he was met with the most vitriolic abuse - the home fans screaming foul abuse at him - abuse that involved himself, his Wife and his kids. He stated that all of that he could take - he was a Professional footballer and it went with the territory. What he found unbelievable was that these cretins were standing with their <10 year old children!

I believe that football and it's fans offers an excellent insight into today's society. No-one seems to care about standards of behaviour anymore.

Not something new. It's been like this for as long as I can remember ( and I've been going to football matches since the early 70's)

Flew back from Prague on Wednesday evening. Plane was full of Sparta Prague fans on their way to the Liverpool match who chanted football songs the entire flight.....2 bleedin hours.
Like someone said....no regard for anyone else.

I used to be a steward at the Molineux and looked after home and away fans. We once banned a wolves fan for doing Nazi salutes at Spurs fans, he had his 10 year old son with him and , sorry but no offense to anyone, the worst away fans I ever dealt with was a toss up between Stoke fans and Cardiff fans. Some cardiff fans punching policeman in riot gear while their kids were trying to pull them back and crying their eyes out after their daddy got a good smacking from a truncheon. If i had my time again I would not have played pub football or gone home and away for 20+ years and would have put all that time into my golf.

when I first posted, it had moderator approval as most forums have to stop spam, porn or anything offensive being posted in a first post.

Why is there such a behavioural difference between Football and Rugby and just about any other sport come to that (Not sure about cage fighting and darts though)
