Following on from brand discussions, who makes the best?

Obviously down to individual opinion.

Drivers? - Ping
Faiways? - Titleist.
Hybrids? - Cobra.
Irons? - Titleist.
Wedges? - Titleist/Mizuno, Cant separate.
Putters? - Taylor Made.
Balls? - Titleist.

Thems my choices.

You're forgetting Burberry Jon

Assuming I made an informed choice, and depending on how much budget comes into the equation, and what level I'm playing at, then it goes something like ;

Driver - Benross / Ping
Fairway woods - Benross
Hybrids - Benross
Irons - Benross
Putter - Ping.

I haven't got a Ping, because I can't afford the one I want, and Smiffy's old putter works perfectly well if I put a decent shot on it.

But for an occassional player, who doesn't generally play very well, and doesn't have money to waste, it's unrealistic to think in terms of major brands.

I think Bentley make nice cars, but they are too expensive to be able to justify the cost, so they cannot be 'the best'. A car gets you from A to B safely, so the best car is the one that does that most efficiently, at the least cost. In my case that makes the best car a Ford Focus Titanium.

For golf clubs, using the same logic, Benross are definately in the top 3 brands, and in my opinion the best of the 3. Ben Sayers, and MD are the other two possibilities.

My kit, which I have gradually picked up over the last 18 months or so, piece by piece, cost me (brand new)

Driver £50
Fairway £45
Hybrid £35
( My 4I hybrid is a second hand £20 pickup,)
Irons 5-Sw £140

I don't think it's possible to fill a bag with better quality gear for under £300

If you are richer than I am, or if you play to a much better standard than I do, or if you play a lot more regularly than I manage, then your definition of 'best' may be based on different criterior.

But I'm definately right. And you're all wrong.

Benross are the best.

:p

TM Driver
Benross Hybrids
Callaway irons
Cleveland wedges
cleveland putters
Srixon balls

thats what's in my bag anyway :D

I like the Bently analogy and its not about cost but what works best. If I base that over my golfing career then my bag would have been:

TM R7 Ltd driver
Hand made persimmon 3 wood
Cally steelhead+ 5 wood
TM Burner hybrid
Maxfli Australian 4-PW
TM 52
Vokey 56
Ping Anser

If we are goin on who makes the best for an average golfer like me to use then

TM Driver
Cally fairway woods
Cobra Hybrid
Mizzy irons
TM wedges (find Vokey etc much heavier)
Ping putters
