Driving to work yesterday, a pheasant decided to take a flying leap into my car. Saw him leap skywards from the verge, didn't think anything of it having seen them leap very high very quickly....... until there was a massive bang caused by my wing mirror hitting the passenger window. The bird had sheared the whole wing mirror fixing in half, no way to recover it, it was hanging on by the electrical cable which couldn't be removed as the unit is moulded. It requires a complete wing mirror unit from Nissan. Phoned the garage to get a quote...... £249 +VAT for the part.... plus labour..... What a rip off....

Have looked online, Official NISSAN GB on EBAY, same part new for £149, or one from a breaker for £75. Very tempted to have a go myself, but seems a bit tricky as the whole inside door panel has to be removed to get at the mirror fixings. Anyone replaced a wing mirror unit on a Nissan Juke before?

He's not a pheasant plucker.

He a pheastant pluckers son?

Back to topic, removing door trims is an art. you need to know how the clips are configured and have the right tools or you will make a right mess. Have you considered your insurance? as long as your excess is less than the total cost, then its a no brainer.

Try YouTube or an owner's forum. Found all I needed to know about removing my Subaru Legacy's door panel to do the speakers from the Legacy GT forum, sure there was a YouTube tutorial there as well.

Really? You must be having a giraffe!! I had my motorcycle crunched by someone who failed to stop. I swallowed the £650 bill because it would have cost me £300 for the excess this year, but the loaded premium the following year would cost me another £600 (so up to £900 for a £650 repair) and would have continued to cost me both in loading & reduced no claims for the next 4 years on top. Anything but a no brainer in my book.

Don't talk to Fragger about door mirrors
He lost one on his Kia and it cost a small fortune...
The things are way too over engineered - too many gizmos in them..

HID lost her mirror when someone refused to give way on a narrow side street with cars parked along it and thought two cars fitted into one lane. Uninsured and cost her c£475 from Ford. That was holding on by the cable and the casing totally smashed so no chance of fudging a repair.

You should get protected no claims and have an excess of only 100 quid then... no brainer....

I hit a gate post in my Sierra back in the day. Full electric jobby. Cost me about £30 from Ford main dealer. Did the same, two years later, £130. That's inflation for you. Now? Yep, it's even more.
If you built a car from spare parts, it would be 10 times the cost of a new one.

Which they will only give you once you have reached maximum no claims discount, and which doesn't alter their ability to apply a loading for making the claim…….

Thanks for digging all those out Blue. especially the manuals. Having read a couple of the threads previously, I was hoping that someone had actually done the process as it seems a bit tricky.

You're welcome. Worth joining one, explaining the problem & seeing if someone has done it but just not posted it up….?
