I had my driver for sale on ebay, all going well it had made what I wanted for it in bids and still had 12 hrs to go so full of confidence. I got up this morning to find ebay had removed it from sale because I didn't want to accept paypal as a method of payment. Apparently it contravenes their rules.

I don't use ebay to sell anymore, they really have bumped up their prices and the Paypal thing annoys me as I didn't mind getting a cheque in the post etc.

Yeah, but there aren't many buyers who want to wait for you to receive the cheque, then five days for it to clear, then for the item to arrive in the post. This can all take a couple of weeks whereas with Paypal you receive payment immediately (9 times out of 10) and post the item the next day.
I don't understand how people manage to have trouble with ebay, i've been using it for years and have never had a single problem with either buying or selling.

Cant you get in touch with the last bidder drawboy and offer the club to them at a mutually agreed price.
Its against ebay rules to carry out a transaction outside of ebay of course but I wont tell em....

Exactly 100% what this man has said.

This buyer was happy to collect it and pay cash. I'ts just ebay maximising profits through not only their charges but paypals as well.

Its not the getting into bother with paypal, its the fact they push you into using their payment system, them making on that part of the deal also even if the guy lives 5 miles away and can come and collect.
The choice is easy, take it or leave it I know, gumtree etc exists and isnt just as secure but then again, if you could combine the best of both worlds....

Not sure if you meant it like I'm reading it, but you don't have to take paypal for the transaction, just offer it as a choice.

I won something about a month ago that was close to me. I went and collected it and paid cash.

In the description I put "I am looking for pick up or cheque/postal order I dont want paypal". That was enough for ebay to remove my item from sale.
Basically I was losing over half on the club anyway and didn't want to lose more to paypal fee's. I dont mind ebay fee's they are a part of running the business but to impose paypal fees as well is in MY view over the top.

I don't get charged any fees by paypal. Are you registered with them as a business?

Can you not impose an extra cost for paypal to cover your fees? I'm sure I've seen ads before that do that.

It's all too much bother. I'll stick to buying from ebay in the future, I'll trade the club next time I want a driver. It's chuffing easier.
